Southern Hard Rock, almost perfect - By: Mr. N. J. Henderson, 23 Oct 2008
So here we go, the second album from Black Stone Cherry is here, & it's been worth the wait.
Southern Rock has never sounded so fresh & contemporary, killer guitar lines, powerful vocals & improved songwriting all contribute here to a band rapidly on the rise.
Things don't really get much better than album opener "Blind Man" which believe me is a good thing, because this song is easily one of the best rock songs I've heard this year.
The Ballad "Things my father said" again fitsin beautifully, its a tearful reflection on one's dad who has passed away.
It's a shame a band like this is not very well known, by that I mean the casual music listener, because it really is a quality album.

Less Nickleback please - By: Funkster, 02 Oct 2008
Not bad but not great. Ony half as good as first album. Some good riffs & ideas interspersed with disappointing rock hero/commercial/protracted choruses. I can almost hear the record company rep saying - "great first album but can't you make it more accessible? Something the kids will like & sing along to. Then we gonna hit the big time - think of the cash...Have a cigar..." Less Nickleback more Sabbath next album please. I have booked tickets for Oxford gigin December with the Answer - may get blown out by the supoport act.
pure brilliance - By: Bruce Broadhead, 01 Oct 2008
bought this album after hearing Blind Man on Scuzz. The album turned out to be complete suprise. You know what it's like, you buy an album after hearing one song & you often find the one song you bought it for was the only decent song on it. Not the case with this one, the whole album does not have a bad song on it. Its got everything, great lyrics, good strong vocals & some amazing guitar work.

go buy it.
A bit dissapointing.. - By: C. Reading, 26 Sep 2008
After being blown away by their incredible self titled debut,I have been salivating over the release of this album for some time..after hearing Blind Man,I felt reassured that this was going to be corker of a follow up...er..not quite...over produced to the point of diminishing the power chords & monster riffs we loved on the first album..go back & hire whoever produced the first album...secondly,the songs..mmm..Blind Man,Devils Queen,Sunrise,Peace is Free,Soul Creek,Ghost of Floyd Collins..all pretty strong, while lacking the raw intensity of any of the songs from the first album(asides from Blind Man)...the rest of the songs on offer are bland, middle of the road forgettable stuff we hear too all too often...it's almost like they ran out of time & they used songs they were going to bin or were unfinished...there wasn't a weak song on the first album..every song was just exceptional...I hope they can return to their original form for the next release as they ARE an exceptional band...maybe Folklore will grow on me oneday...
Black Stone Cherry Delivers a Second Time - By: Tarkers, 22 Sep 2008
After discovering BSC just a few months ago I eagerly awaited their second album on the strength of the stunning debut.
Their second album took a little longer to appreciate due to it being slightly more mainstream but nevertheless it is a great album. Just slightly lacks the heavier feel than their first album.
But having said that my favorite track is the "The Key" - wonderful use of the harmonicain the middle just makes me listen time after time.
Another great album & well worth owning. Can't wait to see themin Bristolin a couple of months time. Rock on...
