Beautiful bluegrass - By: CRB, 05 Aug 2008
Meloncholic melodies, moving cello & ethereal vocals set a mellow mood on this excellent CD.In essence folk orientated vocals over light bluegrass / old timey backing provide a winnning formula which whilst castin the Americas, is easily assimilated to British ears. A sure fire winner.
Nice try, but sometimes more really is less ... - By: Mada about music, 09 Jul 2008
Crooked Still have produced two excellent CDs of bluegrass with a twist - the twist being the interplay between four instrumentsin which the cello plays an unorthodox but brillient part (think bluegrass crossed with the best type of chamber music playing). Here they add an additional fiddle player, which althoughin theory should add to the overall range of their sound, to my ear actually takes away some of the drive & energy that they achieved previously & was the standout quality of their work. There are some good tracks here, but nothing quite up to the best of their previous work. Still just about worth four stars, but not quite up to the high expectations set by the previous two CDs.
