A superior soundtrack - By: Kevin Hall, 14 Aug 2008
Those who remember the Danny Elfman epics from the the Tim Burton films may well be surprised at how different this score is. Where as Elfman used a much more uptempo score with flurries of brass, the Zimmer/Howard score is alternately high percussive or symphonic with strings. Hans Zimmer's score is driving & percussive, similarin style to his scores for Crimson Tide & Gladiator but a a very dark feel all of its own. His music picks out the isolation of both Batman & the Joker, the former with a heroic, determined feel & the latter with dread & fear.
Like all great scores it can almost tell the story through musicin its own right; John Williams' great scores for Star Wars is the kind of tradition this music belongs to. One of the best film scores I have heardin a long time & highly recommended.
Minimalist Mayhem - By: Mr. Warren M. Fisher, 05 Aug 2008
Zimmer & Howard trump their awesome core for 'Batman Begins' with this Minimalsit epic. Dark, intense & deeply unsettling, the two composers seem to be channeling Philip Glass's psychotic twin with pounding rhythms & throbbing chords as they obsessively reiterate their simple musical motifs. The best score of the year so far, & probably Zimmer & Howard's greatest work.
Bleak, austere & insanely addictive - this is pure musical genius.
JUST LIKE BATMAN: DARK, CHAOTIC & MAJESTIC - By: NeuroSplicer, 31 Jul 2008
Ever since THE ROCK & THE LAST SAMURAI had such an impressive soundtrack to be released! Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard did an incredible jobin not only adding to the action on the screen but also capturing the essence of this new Batman.
Moving, exciting & ingenious. A true Masterpiece that can stand on its own as a piece of orchestral art. Strong percussions & nervous strings; brief melodies that build even higher tensions & the ever present thin black line of the Batman Theme to tie it all together. It is only deserving that the best movie this summer is accompanied also by the best Soundtrack.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The Dark Soundtrack - By: T. Tordrup, 29 Jul 2008
This soundtrack is a dark but beautiful soundtrack. I heard the soundtrack before I had the pleasure to see the movie. Before seeing the movie the soundtrack was good, with good tracks, but it seemed to miss something. Now that I have seen the movie, & know what the emotional feeling of the movie are, the soundtrack great... For me I now feel the anger, sorrow of the movie, but also feel of courage & men that are ready to sacrifice them self for the freedom of others.
The Soundtrack should be heard as one big seventy-five minutes track, there are really no stand out tracks, that but one. The "Why So Serious" (track number one), also know as the Joker theme. First times I was listening the track, I felt it was chaotic & strange. But know I understand it represents the Joker perfectly... He is chaos, but he is also a really intelligent enemy of the Dark knight also, & The Joker has a master plan, its hard too spot for all the confusion & anarchy. The same goes the "Why So Serious" track, listen carefully & you will discover that there is more to it then chaos.
It is a four star soundtrack by it self. But a Five star soundtrack if you have seen the The Dark Knight.
Great addition to your Zimmer collection - By: Paul Tang, 15 Jul 2008
Having heard the few audio teaser clips at the Dark Knight Score website, I knew I had to purchase this CD, & it definitely does not disappoint. There's a lot of electronic soundsin this score which may irritate purists, but it adds wonderfully to the tone & atmosphere of the music, making the film menacing.
Those who purchased the Batman Begins CD will recognise a few themesin this score, but they are not prominent & there is plenty of new material & themes. The tempo is also increased which puts you on the edge of your seat.
I am really looking forward to seeing this film, & the quality of the score bodes well!
