High on duplication - By: Rain Man, 22 Apr 2008
Oh dear, here we go again. Another 'best of' to add to our collections of 'best ofs'. You get all the hits again. I must have 'The ladyin red' on about a dozen assorted collections by now & every Christmas we get 'A Spaceman came travelling' playedin every shopping mall. A couple of songs make their debut on a Chris de Burgh compilation but it's business as usual for the likes of 'Don't pay the Ferryman', 'High on emotion', 'Borderline', & 'Missing you'. May I recommend any listeners to what for me is the definitive compilation from Chris; 'Spark to a flame'. I think it's still available.
PLEASE DONT DO THIS -YOU'RE WORTH MORE - By: LEETIE B, 22 Apr 2008
I AGREE THAT YET AGAIN ANOTHER ALBUM CONTAINING THE "OLD FAVOURITES"...IS NOT WHAT WE WANT. THERE ARE FAB TRACKS ON THE EARLY RELEASES LIKE CRUSADER THAT WE NEVER SEE ON THESE MIXES...WHY??? IF YOU MUST DO ANOTHER COMPILATION AT LEAST PICK TRACKS THAT ARENT ON ALL THE OTHERS. THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD TRACKS TO CHOOSE PLEASE PLEASE PICK THOSE. TRUE FANS WOULD LOVE A REMIX OF THE OLDER/NEWER SONGS - SPANISH TRAIN/CRUSADER/ONE WORLD ETC..MY ALL TIME FAVE IS THE GIRL WITH APRIL IN HER EYES....5 STARS FOR MUSIC, ONE STAR FOR VALUE...

After the poor sales of recent new albums from Chris it seems time once again to dust off the old favourites from the vaults & plonk them on yet another compilation. This is a trick recently carried out by Abba & the Carpenters & judging by the relative success of those revisits it's probably a good commercial decision. For the record, the last CdeB compilation `The Ultimate Collection' releasedin 2001 contained 17 tracks of which 12 are duplicated here (although this set features 20 tracksin total as opposed to 17). Previouslyin 1989 we had the 'Spark to a Flame' compilation for which the overlap is 11 tracks. Some of the best songs from CdeB are not featured however on any of these releases. I would have loved to see a compilation featuring `The best that love could be', `A celebration', `Up herein heaven', `Fire on the water' & dammit, my all time favourite track from Chris; `I'm not crying anymore' from the 'Beautiful Dreams' album. They could have still featured the classic CdeB staples such as `Borderline', `Don't pay the Ferryman' & (I guess) `The ladyin Red' but instead reduced some of the unnecessary duplication such as `A Spaceman came travelling' (a track I always skip unless at Christmas), `This waiting heart', `Two sides to every story' & `Fatal hesitation'. There is one new track 'Live for the Day' featured which may persuade diehard fans to part with their money (it's an OK duet with a young lebanese singer named Tina Yamout but whether it's worth forking out the price of an album for is debatable)- other than that the album is yet more recycling from the record company.
Please note, the rating is for this release not for the music which is worth a good four stars.
ANOTHER BEST OF?!!!!! - By: pompeyman, 13 Apr 2008
Is his record company trying to getin the Guinness Book of Records for the most compilations by one artist? Yawn, there is one new track, so I must get it, right? Well I don't think I will. I've had enough of this type of record company practice. At least the awful Patricia the Stripper is not on this one.
