Top class - By: G. G. Saunders, 20 Aug 2008
Suprise I only have one Bowie album ( its true) Hunky Dory & to be honest I cant even say when the last time was that I played it, yea I have records & CD`s. so an old friend lent this to me to see if he could fire up my interest ,We have known each other for at least 30 years & use to have a good idea of what each other liked & listened to. I always thought that Bowie was a pop star who`s singles sold well & maybe a lot of his fans were teens ( & he acted ). secondly I knew his guitarist Mick Ronson had a solo album out `Slaughter on 5th avenue` Which I have never heard but know it is good,so me not to bothered with the David Bowie thing was seriously suprised & delighted by this 72 Live recording. I have found the Bowie band I always wished would exsist they do, (or did ) this is a real rock band playing their hearts out, cracking America..I will now have to liasie with friend & see what else could I be tempted with ( thanks Shaun) I now owe you one.!!
Great performance of iconic songs. - By: Mr. A. J. KNEALE, 18 Jul 2008
I've not listened to Bowie for many years, but when I saw this had been released I decided to get it straight away. This was my favourite era, & I'm a big fan of live albums, seeing how well a small group can reproduce the songs on stage - & they certainly don't disappoint. The band wend their way through a brilliant 18-song set, ranging from the full-on rock of Suffragette City to a wonderful version of Space Oddity - just 2 vocals & a 12-string acoustic guitar. There are only one or two tracks which don't quite match up to the quality of the studio versions; but this is live music & you would expect that. The one thing that stops me giving this five stars is the sound quality & mix. Mostly it is very good, but frequently there are problems: Bowie's guitar is nearly always too quiet (almost inaudible,in fact) & his vocals are occasionally a bit lostin the mix, but my biggest complaint is that various sounds seem to wander over from one side of the stereo mix to the other during the songs, for no apparent reason - Ronson's guitar frequently does this, as do some of the vocals, which is really annoying. I've no idea of the sound source, but surelyin this digital age something could have been done to fix it? The CD is nicely packagedin a small box, great artwork & lots of little goodies inside: postcards, booklet, etc. - a lot of effort has gone into this project - it's well worth the money.
Disappointingly inferior to Hammersmith Odean - By: G. Miller, 16 Jul 2008
The album may be much hyped but when I bought it I was deeply disappointed. Frankly I felt that none of the songs were performed any better than the farewell concert at Hammersmith Odean the following year, & some of them were considerably worse. Released as Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars: the Motion Picture Soundtrack, the Hammersmith Odean CD offers 20 tracks & they give a much better flavour of David Bowie & Mick Ronson at their very best. Buy that CD instead, or even better the DVD of the concert.
ZIGGY!!!!! - By: G. Young, 13 Jul 2008
Brill cd,would recomend. i whish i could have been old enough to go & see Bowie as Ziggy but 72 was the year i was born!!
Get this cd up at full volume & if you have it ,through surround sound it sounds as if you are actually there.

Ziggy: warts and all - By: M. SIRL, 13 Jul 2008
A bit of a holy grail for Bowie fans, this is identical to the earlier CD release backin the 90's so if you already have then that don't buy this. That said any self-respecting Bowiephile should have a copy of thisin their collection.

It's not perfect: what you get here comes complete with technical hiccups, Mick Ronson's flat backing vocals & bum guitar notes, & Bowie's attempt to recreate the 'lift off' section from Space Oddity ranks alongside The Laughing Gnome as a truly cringe-worthy moment. But what you also get is the definitive historical record of Ziggyin his most formative & creative period. When Bowie introduces one number with "This song was written by Ziggy" he's not kidding. At the time he recorded this he was living & breathing his most famous creation.

And there are some very special moments, too. Acoustic versions of My Death & Andy Warhol stand out, the latter adopting an eerie quality lackingin the Ken Scott studio production. Allin all this is THE definitive Ziggy live album, rivalled only by the original bootleg versions of 'last' show at Hammersmith Odeon the following year.
