Perfect mood music - By: M. A. Smith, 07 Aug 2008
I'll start by saying straight away that this won't be everyone's cup of tea. But if it is then this really is a great album.

Obviously it's all instrumental, & the tracks are all around two minutesin length. The tracks flit between slow, ambient pieces to harder, industrial tunes, but somehow they all flow very nicely together.

Ultimately, this isn't a studio album, it's two hours of mood music you can start playing & transport yourself into your own dark world. It's perfect if, like me, you like having music on all the time but sometimes need to concentrate on something else as well.

I've given it three stars because it's something so unique - it's either a fantastic instrumental set or a boring, self-indulgent saunter through sonic textures. But view it as the former & simply use it as background sound & this really is worth the money.
Even further down the spiral - By: Stuart R. Allen, 24 Jul 2008
After great anticipation of this supposedly "important" release from Trent Reznor I can honestly say that Ghosts 1-4 is far from the masterpiece many fans are hailing it as.

I've been a Nails fan since Pretty Hate Machinein the early nineties & have admired Reznors collaborations & musical experimentation, but this just seems like a rush job, even though he's known to be one of the most methodical perfectionistsin the industry.
Far from this being a 'soundtrack for daydreams', if your daydreams are as erratic as this then i'd suggest swift medical help. It lurches from lazy mechanical durges to off key piano akin to a Les Dawson sketch.

With little of his trademark industrial power riffs & certainly nothing remotely close to the atmospheric instrumentals he's created for movies like Natural Born Killers & Lost Highway, this double disc seems as bland as water & it's hard to understand how any of this could've stirred him into believingin it.

If this is Nine Inch Nails all grown up then i'd certainly prefer a trip down memory lane rather than sit through this monotonous & disappointing effort.
Mesmerizing - By: C. E. Tilbury, 18 Jun 2008
I think this is brilliant - you really can see the nine inch nailsin it. It is all intrumentals, so unfortunately no vocals or anthems here, but still not to be missed. This is music that is easy to get lost in, so amazing for relaxing, but it does have really nice melodies & tunes across the tracks.

Overall, as slightly peculiar offering, but not one too be missed once you have listened to most of their other albums & liked them. If you'rein that position, this is unmissable for 36 tracks of raw trent reznor, for a very low price.
wide blue yonder - By: P. J. Mowat, 16 May 2008
I loved this. Call it a soundtrack, ambient pulse of life or whatever, it is damn good. Shine on you crazy NIN diamonds! Pete
very good but difficult to hear but... - By: L. Szubart, 28 Apr 2008
I heard that this album is "soundtrack for daydreaming" so expected it to be some kind of background music. So its not, this music involves listener & I have just sit & listen. I downloaded .pdf file from NIN site with pictures to each track what I recommend to do by everybody becouse they connected with tracks mood. This music maybe not easy but if you are conscious listener & looking for ambitious music buy this album. And its must-have for NIN fans to see how amazing artist Trent Reznor is...
