MAX BACK TO HIS ANGRY BEST!!! - By: Mr. G. Charlesworth, 12 Aug 2008
I have been a fan of Sepultura since the release of 'Beneath The Remains' & remained a fan until Max Cavalera left after 'Roots' & followed his Soulfly career which has put out some excellent albums. So when Soulfly released 'Conquer' I also bought this album at the same time. And I'm so glad I did.
Never one to have a problem venting his anger Max has Igor have created an album with the sole intention of making it as heavy as possible from start to finish. Not since 'Arise' has Max sounded so aggressive. The songs are intense with Max screaming/shouting his guts out & Igor thrashing away & each song is of high quality. To my mind Max writes the best riffsin metal & this album is full of them.
I won't go through the album track by track but the quality throughout is excellent. If you have any doubts about this album don't. Its well worth parting with your money!!!
Return Of The Cavalera Bro's - By: S. Thomas, 02 May 2008
This is an awesome CD & the 2 things that stand out for me are the C.C. sound, which sounds totaly different to Sep's & Soulfly & the HEAVYNESS of this CD!
If you thinking of buying this you will not regret it!
A real blast.. from the past - By: Axeman5000, 14 Apr 2008
I will freely admit that I approached this record with very high expectations, having been a huge fan of Max-era Sepultura backin the 90's. I honestly can't remember being so excited by a debut record from any band ever. Last time a metal record was this highly anticipated, it was Metallica's St Anger, & we all remember how crushingly let down we felt, even though we really, really wanted to love it...
So this record honestly felt like going backin time ten years, butin the best possible way! Let's all be honest, Seps without Max never sounded as Raw, & Soulfly just wasn't up to the standard of Arise, or Chaos AD.
Cavalera Conspiracy feels like a fantastic title for this new band, with the rumours of Max re-joining the old band, then Iggor quitting Sepultura amid speculation of a new project with his brother. Who knows what the truth is, & frankly who cares when the result is so vital?
Inflikted, as an album, sounds fantastic right from the off. Clearly the two brothers sound like they are having a fantastic time playing together again. Max's gutteral howls, crunching down-tuned guitars & Iggor's unmatchabe sense of rhythm just mesh perfectly & you'rein no doubt that it was meant to be.
If we are being truly objective, it does all sound like a bit of a throwback. There's nothing radically new happening on this record. It sounds,in it's best moments, a hell of a lot like Chaos AD & some of Roots.
So why the 5-star review? Well, quite simply, if you were excited about the prospect of a Cavalera brothers reunion, then the chances are you were a fan of classic Sepultura & remember how terrible the split felt backin '98. It was more than a band with musical differences, it was a betrayal of family. So you'll have also hoped against hope that these two very talented musicians would eventually find a path to reconciliation. How can I attack the record for not sounding innovative? Well, the truth is that I did not want it to! The record sounds like Exactly like what you were clamouring for. No surprises, no bizarre diversions into "new birth", Spinal Tap style stuff. You get the feeling that Max & Iggor knew what we wanted, knew what they wanted, & they have delivered precisely that with no extra fat. For that, we should salute them.
OK, so it isn't,in name at least, the reunion of Sepultura that we really wanted, but it restarts the beating heart of that once-great band & resurrects it for the noughties with a new, fresh identity. Let the other ones have the old name & carry on with their decline. The Cavalera brothers will have the last laugh. I only hope now that it's not a one-off & I hope to be hearing a lot more from Cavalera Conspiracyin years to come. I was a fan before I heard a single note, & I'm very glad to say that this record has not let me down.
Ultra Mega! - By: Ms. CR Dix, 08 Apr 2008
Well feck me sideways. Most people like to cling onto the past & hope for reunions of all the great bands. Sometimes they are mind-blowing & sometimes they are a tad disappointing. This band seem to have done the reunion thing that people were hoping for from the original Sepultura brothers, but with the twist of creating something new at the same time - something new that IS mind-blowing & not even close to being a disappointment. This album delivers some awe-inspiring metal from the collective genius that is Max & Igor. Miss it at your own peril!
This is the next best thing to a Sepultura reunion - By: Oli, 08 Apr 2008
I've been waiting for this for a looong time, so maybe it's not a Sepultura reunion which is what we were all anticipating, but this is definitely the next best thing! Max & Iggor have got together to make some absolute magic, as good as anything they didin their legendary Seps career.
Tracks like Inflikted, Sanctuary & Hearts of Darkness are the pick of the bunch standing out with Max's signature sound & Iggor's powerhouse drumming.
One of my favourite albums of the year so far, definitely gotta check it out!
