Full of memorable songs - By: haunted, 31 Aug 2008
Joshua Tree was made at a time when the band weren't as wrapped upin their own importance, or maybe before we had noticed it.
It is full of the earnestness that has become their trademark. In later albums this became too forced for this cynic's liking at least.

The album is full of memorable songs, perhaps Trip through your Wires is the weakest one but all the others cry out for repeated listening.

Bono is perhaps the ultimate lead singer, making himself the centre of attention with his performances & lyrics. However a song like "Mothers of the Dissappeared" makes you believe that his heart is certainlyin the right place.
The Edge's guitar drives the songs forward again & again & Adam & Larry round off one of the ultimate 4 pieces.
As the cliche goes, a must for every collection!
Pap music. - By: Ramsey Tupper, 11 Aug 2008
One of the most over-hyped, self important, vacuous bands to make noise pollution ever. Oh but so many classics on this album. Who cares about this vehicle for a short stock hypocritcal talentless tike like Bonio. A millionaire lecturing us about the poorin the world & the environment when he flies a hat by plane to a gig where he is & his hat wasnt. What rot. Don't fund this silliness by buying into the U2 trap. They might have struck gold with this album but they have been rubbisher since & just mimic the same sound & repackage it as a new album, then release a new best ofin between. Stupid glasses & Bonios nose looks like shaved tackle.
A Classic is Re-Born ! - By: Mr. Laurence Williams, 05 Jan 2008
I have this as part of the Deluxe CD/DVD/Book Edition - but the remastered CD is the significant component...

Second onlyin my all-time favourite list to Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon, 'The Joshua Tree' is a masterly album with fantastic songs, unforgettable musical sequences & marvellous guitar riffs.

I didn't realise how popular this album was with everyone else until I saw a Top 100 countdown & it camein at number 2 !

Even from my original CD edition I was taken in, despite the rather muffled & stodgy recording (as is 'The Unforgettable Fire').

Therefore a remastered recording always suggested an even better listening experience was possible, but as I have never listened to a 'remastered' CD of any kind (as all my other favourites were already of acceptable audio quality) I could not be sure....

I am now sure - this 'new' edition is quite superb & at last means the music on this album sounds like other modern music on CD !

The presentation is now clear, the bass far more prominent, the vocals are more audible & the overall mix now sounds like stereo (where it previously sounded like mono !).

Right from the off, with 'Where The Streets Have No Name' the background synth & fade-in of 'The Edge' on guitar are so much more prominent & things stay as good from then on.

The listening experience is similar to an audio transition from cassette to CD or the like, it is that good.

Anyone who is a fan of this album (and there are clearly a lot of people who are !) MUST get this remastered CD, it is superb.
Pales in comparison to Simple Minds - By: Ben Dover, 27 Dec 2007
This is full of 'fillers'. Get Simple Minds' 'Once Upon A Time' instead.

If the whole of America believed they were Scottish, instead of Irish (LOL!), we never would've heard of U2.

And what do Americans (who gave U2 their fame purely down to Irishness) know about music? In England Bruce Springsteen wouldn't even be 'The Cleaner', let alone 'The Boss'!
Red Hill Mining Town - given the treatment it deserves - By: Edy, 22 Dec 2007
I have read so many critics reviews who say that there is very little difference between this version & the original. Well, my only comment on that is they really have not listened well to either. What do they expect? Completely new versions of the songs? They've been remastered, not rewritten & performed! The songs sound fantastic & it really is like listening to the album for the first time, for me.

There is one exception - Red Hill Mining Town seems more than just remastered - it has been given a new life; it's almost like a completely new U2 song & is the highlight of the 20th Anniversary edition. I kept thinking I was imagining it but I played the original version & indeed, whatever tweaks they did, it's certainly made an amazing difference. If this song had sounded this great backin 87, it would not have been the nearly single that it was & instead it would surely have been a major hit (with a different promo video). The middle & possibly most underated song of The Joshua Tree album is now a beautiful key song. Love it.
