Good intro to the Foos? - By: eva452, 19 Aug 2008
I bought this album as I knew bits of the Foos but hadn't really listened to them before. The music is brilliantin parts but vocals a bit too "shouty" for my taste personally.
The best Foo Fighters- now with added B sides - By: Marigold, 13 Jun 2008
This is my favourite Foo Fighters album, I have owned it for years & still play it regularly. If you are just getting into the Foos then I would buy this first. It sounds a lot crisper & finished then the first album & you can just let play the whole way through as it flows really well. It also has Dave Grohl drumming on nearly all of it.
Although I like some of the later Foo Fighters singles there hasn't been an album that has matched this. It has the well known classic singles such as 'Everlong' & 'Monkey Wrench' but also memorable album tracks such as 'Hey, Johnny Park!' & 'Up In Arms'.
*** Great Album *** + bit more = 5 STARS - By: N. Cadman, 20 Mar 2008
The Foo's Colour & the Shape I think is their best album, though they have plenty of albums that are a long way from disapointing.
I have yet to hear a Foo CD worth less than 4 stars, -I have 2 more to try yet-, but even if they not as good as their average, FF still got more top albums than the average bear.
If this is a 5* CD with some extra tracks on, even if they are rough/ not to everyones taste, thats a 5* CD with poor extras, not a 3* CD! COME ON!
Extras are usually 'not of merchantable quality' , thats why they not released previously. Sometimes theres a killer track, but usually they sate only the thirstiest of fans.
Tracks can be sampled on the net before buying, so please if you have the original Colour & Shape CD, do this.
If you dont have the original, then you cant lose by getting this anniversary version, which is a 5*CD with extra tracks.
If you dont like the extras, dont play them.
If you dont try them you wont know!
The Colour And The Re-Shape - By: The Fault, 16 Oct 2007
Time & again I have been disappointed by Foo Fighters albums, simply because every release after 1997 has failed to live up to The Colour And The Shape. Upon the release of every new album the band proclaim it'll be better than anything they have ever done but I don't think they will ever better this album. This is when the Foos blended blistering rock with great melodies to near perfection. Let's use Monkey Wrench as an example - a finely tuned rock beast with awesome riffs & the kind of "free spirit" passion the band has struggled to maintain since. This was an exctiting & accomplished album with almost no weak links & yet I find most of Foo Fighters new stuff relatively bland these days.
So why only three stars for such a damn good album? Well the albumin its original form certainly deserves the full five stars but I can't hide the disappointmentin the 6 bonus tracks - they are crap! The production isn't as good as the 13 main album tracks (presumably because the bonus tracks have not been remastered) & the vocals are dull. Most are cover versions, with the exception of Dear Lover (a reasonable track I suppose - the only one!) & The Colour And The Shape (a simply dreadful mess of a track). We also have a dull version of Baker Street..... yawn. If you don't already own The Colour And The Shape then this is the version to get (for completist reasons if nothing else) yet I can't recommend the re-release to existing owners. Unfortunately I feel I've wasted money on 6 bonus tracks I will never listen to, seeing as I already had the album.
Possibly their best ever album - By: M. McManus, 06 Oct 2007
This album is probably the Foo Fighter's best album, & really show cases the talent of the backing band & lyricist. The album's best tracks are "My Hero" & "Everlong", both of which are absolutely superb, & there are strong tracks like "Monkey Wrench" & "Upin Arms" to keep our blood flowing nicely. The main feature of this album is the fact so many different approaches are tried to tracks & sound, without ever losing the distinctively rocky feel to the whole album, & Grohl's lyrical flair is well exercised by the different types of track. This is strongly recommended to Foo Fighter's fans.
