An acciident waiting to happen - By: Richard, 09 Apr 2008
By trying to find a B side to the then current Harrison single the wheels cranked into motion for one of the most remarkable musical happennings of the 20th century. The fact that it happennedin the 80s made that decade a little more than onein which according to the rock critics "nothing of consequence happenned" & the decade where Dylan is supposed to have cut his worst albums
The music could have livedin the 60s & wasin fact made by survivors from the 60s (and 70s re Tom Petty who was really a carry on of the 60s).
The Travelling Wilburys probably intended to make just the one album but a 2nd one would follow named Volume 3 on purpose.
The Travelling Wilburys were not without tragedy as Roy Orbison passed away & his intended replacement Del Shannon-whose last album had been produced by Petty- followed.
Since the 2 Wilbury albums have come at least half a dozen unofficial releases like Family Album & now with this CD many of the unissued at the time songs are available & this very CD collection topped the album chartsin the U K
Superb package - By: S J Buck, 05 Jan 2008
I bought the original album when it came outin the late 1980's, but never bought Vol 3. This package reissues Vol 1 with Vol 3 & a DVD containing the videos for the singles & a short documentary as well.
To see & hear this supergroup on the DVD was emotional. George Harrison was always behind Lennon/McCartneyin discussions about the Beatles but when he did things well he was amongst the very best. Now of course he's gone along with Roy Orbison as well. 'Handle With Care' features these two on vocals with Harrisons distinctive slide guitar prominant as well. This is a magical track. I've been a long time fan of Orbison & his amazing voice & as one of the band says on the DVD to have arguably the greatest pop singer (Orbison) & the greatest lyric writer (Dylan)in the same group was just incredible.
All the guys contribute memorable parts to both albums & whilst the second album suffers from the loss of Orbison (any album would) its still a fine recording. The DVD isn't that long but its certainly of historical interest, & one I shall watch again.
Enjoy the legends, we probably won't ever see a band like this again.
Do the Wilbury Twist! - By: A. Stevens, 02 Jan 2008
Roll up your carpets for the Wilbury Twist. Well, OK, it's not the best songin the collection, but it's a lot of fun. And fun is clearly what the band members had when they made the albums. They weren'tin it for the money.
Frankly, the two albums alone are worth buying but the addition of the DVD makes it a must-have for rock music lovers.
Now - if only I could find Volume 2....
DVD was a joy - By: J. R. Knight, 30 Dec 2007
I have been listening to good music & I mean good music- for a very long time. I already have the other discs released but the dvd was a joy to see. You see that they really enjoyed the whole 'bit' & I felt very happy when watching the dvd. Joyous!!!
There aren't enough stars - By: SR Moor, 20 Nov 2007
A great collection. I have never tired of TW 1 & 3 & listened to them both hundreds of times. Now the complete collection! A really great present for anybody (any age) who likes a bit of rock with real class.
