release the second generation wainwright - By: Mr. D. J. Smith, 31 Dec 2009
I am a great admirer of this guys Mum & Dad - particularly his Mother & Aunt -the wonderful mcgarigle sisters. The boy Rufus is a good act BUT he is very monotoned & (dare I say it) is becoming boring. An entertainer of this unquestioned quality needs to break out of his straight jacket (no pun meant) & be more upbeat about life the world & himself
A Brilliant Album....Rufus is a genius for our time! - By: Susannah, 02 Jul 2009
I fellin love with Rufus Wainwright's music irrevocably listening to this, my first of Rufus' albums. I have played it solidlyin the car, first thingin the morning, winding down of an evening & it is just a genius recording- love all the songs. I subsequently went out & bought all his other albums, very unlike me but was just blown away...I was completely hooked. I first saw Rufus on an interview with Johnathan Ross & his 'star quality' & enormous talent- rare performers have both!, struck me immediately that I was intrigued to find out more about him. So glad I did, he has become my favourite singer/songwriter of all time....no question- he is sublimely brilliant!
Probably buy this album - By: C. E. Foster, 10 Apr 2009
Having been introduced to Rufus Wainwright by 'Want Two,' I was initially intrigued & relieved by this album's similarly dense composition, & occasionally dischordant harmonies. In the early stages of a prolonged spate of listens, the album holds up well; even songs more spartanin their arrangement, such as 'Going to a Town' capture the mind temporarily. I love the grandiose, flamboyant aspects of Wainwright's work, & his tremendous vocal power. Musically, the album still appeals to me after listening to it regularly for months. However, the lyrics have begun to seem a little tritein places, particularly when compared to either of the 'Want' albums. Even so, there are still momentsin 'Release the Stars' that make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Worth it.
pretty good,whats next for rufus? - By: Ms. A. N. Akuffo, 27 Mar 2009
Its not bad i originally came know rufus music through hearing track 2 going to town & loved it,i discovered it at the liberary & each track grew on me,especially tiergarten.
i think the songs are more rocky with over the top orchestra arrangements that seem to have influences from queen,as well as vocally on each album of rufus he's baritone singing style evolves more.
i wonder whats next apart from the judy garland tributes, every album i've listened i've found to like, my favorite being poses.
I so much wanted to like this - By: avid fan, 04 Nov 2008
I so much wanted to like this CD. I have listened to it several times, and tried to get something positive out of it. I have failed . Track after track of self indulgent meowing. Absolutely awful
