Never really been a fan of the indie scene & more of a metal fan myself, i went to see this band due to my friend buying tickets & needing someone to go with him. Live, they were fantastic which surprise surprise led me to buy this album which is so so catchy & to be honest just brilliant. so yeah buy it!!!

-Take her back
caught in their trap! - By: Nicole Cook, 17 May 2008
Admittedly upon first listen of this CD I was certain the Pigeons were just another standard indie band, yet after just a few listens of this I found myself totally loving this striking debut.
This CD flows flawlessly, each song a remarkable prologue to the next, it's so easy to listen to & is guaranteed to have you singing & dancing wherever you are!
Sure the boys aren't about to win any brit awards but this cd does exactly what any indie/pop cd should do, it's fun, memorable & completely captivating!
You will not regret buying this, especially at this price! Best tracks include 'Take her back,' 'You know I love you' & the massive opener 'Romantic type.'
Don't flip this one the bird - By: A. Sweeney, 17 Feb 2008
Rather like one of 2007's other debut releases, Cold War Kids' 'Robbers & Cowards', this album starts brilliantly & fades a littlein terms of quality of songwriting towards the end of their rather good debut. Having said that, the reason for the success of this album is because of the sheer energy & superbly catchy quality of the trio of songs which open this collection & also because there isn't a song on this album that doesn't deliverin some way.

There are echoes of The Undertones & The Buzzcocks at their best on the superb 'I Found Out' and, all throughout the album, it's almost like The Pigeon Detectives (who hail from the same city as The Kaiser Chiefs, Leeds) have captured how to effectively combine late 70s Pop/Punk with some of the more fashionable indie acts such as The Strokes or Hot Hot Heat.

This is a very likeable effort, with themes of love & loss predominant throughout the album, making it easy to connect with the straightforward, but by no means unintelligent, lyrics. This band, especially if their second album (duein May 2008) builds on the good work demonstrated on this release, could easily be part of the big names on the rock/indie scene. If they don't quite make it - well, at least they've released a consistently enjoyable, high quality debut.
A great debut - By: Mike0690, 06 Feb 2008
I bought this CD after booking to see The Pigeon Detectives live without really having heard anything about the band beforehand. It will take a few listens through, but it's full of growers that will stickin your head;in a good way. Although at a glance they can all seem quite samey, the songs do each have their own distinct edge. They're all catchy, simplistic, feel-good tunes, & I'm pleased to say I don't find myself skipping them on my iPod since buying the album.

There are plenty of deserving tracks included. Obviously there is a lot of indie & pop influence involved. If you like The Kooks then I think you might like The Pigeon Detectives. It's a solid debut album & I hope the Detectives develop their music along with their new found popularily.

Oh, & they were great live!
More of the same? So what, enjoy it for what it is! - By: Seen it all before, 05 Feb 2008
It seems that some reviewers are critisising the 'Detectives' for being 'indie'. What is 'indie'? Is it not just a genre invented by the media? Enjoy this album for what it is - simplistic music made by people who obviously enjoy making it. Not a classic album, nor (IMO) will they make another album worthy of note but so what, we livein an era of throw-away bands. Buy it, Love it, Move on to the next!
