Credit where credit's due - By: Conrob, 15 Jul 2008
Perhaps someone can actually provide an example of where she is supposed to sound like Billie Holliday ...? She doesn't sound like any other singer I can think of offhand & she certainly doesn't adopt any of the usual vocal mannerisms used by singers wanting to sound 'soulful' (e.g. excessive melisma, too much ad-libbing, shouting, etc.). She is a proper singer who relies on a naturally rich tone & actually interpreting the song as opposed to just 'vocalising'. I'd say she isin the tradition of singers like Van Morrison & John Martyn (without particularly sounding like them) - singers with a love of jazz/blues/R&B who found their own way of interpreting the music & creating their own vocal style. The use of Phil Spector/girl group/Motown - influenced arrangements provides an inspired setting for her voice & lyrics & is evocative rather than derivative (go back to what you might think are the 'originals' & the resemblance you imagined is purely superficial). Her lyrics are funny, touching, sometimes ballsy & streetwise, sometimes more 'literate' & generally refreshing & full of quirky details. As for the beehive - who cares? It suits her.
Glastonbury 2008 - By: Knight, 28 Jun 2008
Just seen Amy perform live at Glastonbury & boy is there something special about this woman. Huuuggggeeeee magnestism & charisma with a touch of the Marilyn Monroe tragedy about her, but what a voice. I'm hooked ;-)

Amazing voice - By: Sergio Branco, 19 Jun 2008
Well this cd is almost or entirely perfect. Each & every songin the album is very good, her voice is terrific & overall it was truly a very nice buy.
Lazy - By: Book Addict, 29 May 2008
There must be a dirth of singing talent..this is ok but so lazy. Most girls under the age of 14 can reproduce the mouthy noise that appears to be taken for 'singing' & Winehouse does not need to become the Whine-house she is here. The girl's got talent but she uses it with slack skill. Time to go back to school Amy. I'll listen to you when you've grown up & decided to entertain with your singing instead of gargling that whine.
Classic from the best musician alive today - By: Thomas Swade, 26 Apr 2008
After waiting a long while I finally bought this album. It's incredible. As others have said, the music has a 50's & 60's feel but the lyrics & style are bang up-to-date. Amy's voice is incredible. I can't think of a single musician, singer or band better than her today. The album will be remembered as an all time classic. I also just got her previous album (which Amy recently said she didn't like). The style on the previous album is different but it's still brilliant! My favourite tracks on the Back to Black album are 'You Know I'm No Good' & 'Addicted'.
