An Impressive Debut Album - By: J. Snook, 11 Sep 2008
This CD is Escape the Fate's excellent debut album 'Dying is your latest fashion'.
This is a band that refuses to fall into any one particular music genre. Instead they employ many different music styles to create something special. However overall I'd have to say their metal/metalcore.
For starters I think I ought to mention that this music contains screaming, so if you are not into that or if you are too closed minded to listen to music like this then, this isn't for you. However, Escape the Fate do not scream excessively, there are a few songs with quite a bitin it & then, some with none at all.

The first thing I noticed with this album was that it was very approachable, with straight forward rock/metal songs like the brilliant 'Webs we weave' & the popular single 'situations'. However, when you get to track 4 - The Guillotine, you know that this band means business. The guillotine is an amazing & powerful track that starts off on a similar sort of level as the previous 3 tracks, however, towards the middle, it slows right down & then builds up momentum until it unleashes an epic & powerful guitar solo that blows me away when I hear it.

So far, after 3 excellent tracks & 1 phenomenal anthem, we have track 5 (reverse this curse) & 6(cellar door) which are quite catchy but undeniably 2 of the 3 'filler' songs on the album.
However, track 7 is the song that originally got me into this band. The song is called 'There's no sympathy for the dead' & is everything you could want from a metal band with rip roaring vocals, excellent screaming & a fantastic guitar solo to to top it off. Straight after that is another fantastic song 'My apocalypse' which begins slowly, but soon kicks into an truly epic metal song. This track probably has the most screamingin it & probably has some of the best guitar work.

Track 9,in my opinion, is the third & final filler track. The song entitled 'friends & alibis' is again quite catchy but is equally forgettable. However, following this is another single 'Not good enough for truthin cliche' which, like the other single of the album is probably the most mainstream & approachable song due to the lighter tone & lack of screaming. The song is Okay but it is no where near as good as the other rock anthems on this album.
The final song off the album took me a while too get into as it is completely different to the other tracks. 'The day I left the womb' is a powerful & emotional finale to the CD that really shows off singer Ronnie Radke's abilities. It is a nice acoustic affair that leaves a lasting impression & is quite a sad song if you listen to the lyrics.

Escape the Fate are a talented band, however, they have been through a lot this past year as The lead singer Ronnie Radke was arrested & putin prison. This nearly caused the band to split up but luckily they managed to find another singer - former blessthefall frontman Craig Mabbitt is the new singer for Escape the Fate.
I'd recommend this to fans of Atreyu, Killswitch Engage, Underoath etc. You should buy this CD if you have any interestin metalcore or decent rock music & as this album is only a fiver (at the time of writing) it is a steal.

NOTE - If you like this you'll be gald to know that Escape the Fates second album 'This War Is Ours' is out 20th October 08.
