Brandi Carlile is amazing! I bought both of her UK albums on the back of an Amazon home page promotion on new artists. Generally I find most of the music that I buy from these sorts of promotions to be enjoyable but most don't have the wow factor. Brandi has that wow factor! Her voice is incredible & the songwriting is beautiful. Brandi's band (aka The Twins) is top notch. I went to see Brandi play live at a small theatrein Leicester Square - I've seen many live bandsin the past year & I have to say that Brandi Carlile was one of the most powerful acts I've seen for years.
Branda Carlile is a starin the making. Watch her space!
Brilliant - By: Dr. W. E. Allen, 24 Apr 2008 I first discovered Brandi via the Amazon Vine programme that supplied me with a copy of her second album 'The Story' free of charge. It blew me away & has seldom been out of my CD player & iPod since. Research directed me to this earlier effort which has not been releasedin the UK. Ordered this from an Amazon partner (actual Amazon price is ridiculous). Like 'The Story' Brandi's singing is excellentin this album, but overall there are no songs that stand out as much as 'The Story' & 'Turpentine' do on the newer CD. Don't let that put you off, just order both.
A Star is Born - By: Critical Ear, 22 Jan 2007 Brandi Carlile is going to be HUGE, & if you listen to this album you'll find out why. She has an amazing voice, & she & her working partners Tim & Phil Hanseroth have put together an fabulous album of contemporary, rock-tinged folk with attitude. But this ain't folk-rock! This is a collection of brilliant songs, full of grace & passion, packed with unforgettable melodies & hooks. Brandi has been making a name for herselfin the States with her live show, which she opened last year with her sparse cover of the Elton John/Bernie Taupin early classic 60 Years On (added as a bonus track to this tour edition of the album). But, & here's the thing, you end up liking her own stuff so much more. Buy this & it wont be off your CD player for months (and then there's the new album due out on April). Why this has not been releasedin the UK is a mystery. Columbia Records are out of touch!! Buy it anyway, you'll be so glad that you did. You're going to love her sooner or later, so it may as well be sooner!
