Absolutely five (5) stars - By: Nikolaos SOUTIS, 11 May 2006
Ok it's a perfect song, very catchy, with beautiful clear-sound guitars from Jack White & his mates. When I heard it a couple of times, I liked so much, so I bought the single immediately.

But nobody is talking how good the b-side is. The Bane Rendition is a fantastic rock instrumental track with plenty of highly inspired guitar tunes... it goes low & silent & then loud again so beautifully.
Fairly mediocore - By: Matt Gibson, 09 May 2006
"Steady, As She Goes" is one of those songs. Instantly catchy, you're humming it for a couple of weeks & then you realise it actually isn't that good. The lyrics are poor (what exactly is "the point of stable glue"?) & the music is pretty pedestrian. It's a conventional rock song without the bluesy edge of The White Stripes, or anything to make it stand out amongst the raft of new bands out at the moment. They only reason it's gotten airplay is because Jack White isin the band & it's a "supergroup".

"Store Bought Bones" is a much more interesting prospect, with it's weird scratchy sounds & frantic pace. This should have been the lead single, not "Steady As She goes", but it's not enough. There's nothing special about The Raconteurs, & with their debut album apparently only ten (!) songs long you get the sense that they might not have many original ideas to offer
Jack Whites Best Pop Single Since Seven Nation Army - By: Mr. D. J. Mcmurray, 24 Apr 2006
Steady as she goes is the first full length single from the supergroup 'The Raconteurs'. This has a distinic catchy quality to it, just as many of the white stripes singles did (seven nation army, the denial twist & blue orchid to name a few). This song has been accepted as a classic from the hardcore fans when it was released as a very limited 7"in january & now its time for the mainstream to get into it. I feel that the single itself has such great quality that it can bring the raconteurs to high levels, that took the white stripes 4 years to achieve. The single has a catchy riff & catcher lyrics. Jack White & Brenden Benson are a great pair, their voices are so similar you cant tell who is singing. The single, supprisingly starts off with a drum beat by greenhorn patric keeler, the best drumer of his generation, & a nice little bass riff by greenhorn Jack lawrence, one of the leading garge rock basists. The song is a great singalong song & will be getting festival crowds jummping up & down all summer. I prerdict great success for this band. But is it ever going to be as good as the white stripes? Well if this single is anything to go by then maybe...
