shakira is THE one to listen to this summer! - By: Ninalodo, 20 Jul 2007
This is a amazing album. It has a lot of genres that include :slow music, latin, pop & rock. This really is a great album. Her voice is amazing & the moves are sexy & cool. Her voice is not deemed as the most flowing swan on the lake, it stands as one femalein a world dominated by males, singing how she wants to sing, & not caring on peoples veiws on her! Although this album contians bad language & rude parts it is a amazing album & if you want 2 party then choose this album. In the last track she singsin spainish 95% of the time. Hips don't lie is my favourite song of 2006. Buy this when musicin the 'popular' culture isn't up to your standards, & I swear you won't be dissapointed! This is one for parties, the car & general listening. It is for all ages & it WON'T dissapoint you!

Beautiful - By: Kay Scarlet, 19 Sep 2006
I have been a fan of Shakira since her hit Whenever, Wherever hit the charts. I bought this album after hearing Hips don't lie & La Tortura. I loved both songs, & I generally love Shakira's music, so I purchased it. I love this album. There is only one song on it that I dislike (day & time) because its a replica of a spanish version on her oral cd 1...whichI had already. I can listen to the album all the way through. Illegal is a sad sounding song...its a little haunting & is beautiful.
How do you do questions the existance of god...which is why it was bannedin some countries. But it makes you really think.
Animal City & Hey you are both lively, great tracks. I didnt originally like costume makes the clown, but after a few listens I loved it. Shakira's voice sounds beautiful on almost every track & I truly recommend the album.
All I would say is that there isn't so much belly dancing themed stuff on here... but its still just as catchy. I do miss the belly dance element though, being a belly dancer myself.
Shakira's Oral Fixation Vol.2: 2-2½ stars - By: Joan Moslund Jespersen, 24 Aug 2006
As Shakira released her English album Laundry Servicein 2001, the hip-shaking youngster rocketed to international stardom due to the monster hits of Whenever, Wherever, Underneath Your Clothes & Objection (Tango). The perfect fusion of contemporary pop/rock & Latino rhymes proved to be the formula which distinguished Shakira from the average pop star. In 2005, her latest album Oral Fixation Vol.2 was released to diverse reactions. The record buying public did not seem enthusiastic of the lacklustre single Don't Bother & Oral Fixation Vol.2 could easily have ended its daysin the bargin bin. However, thanks to the re-release of the album which includes the gigantic hit single Hips Don't Lie, Oral Fixation Vol. 2 assured Shakira a successful album. So how good is Oral Fixation Vol.2 really? Is it as good as Hips Don't Lie indicates? Or is it simply a dull affair?
The album opens with the rocky How Do You Do, questioning how someone is able to function despite the harm they have caused. While How Do You Do is appealing, the tune develops into a homogeneous offering. The arrangement seems too weighty & a softer melody would have done wonders for the song. The slightly vague first single Don't Bother did not help generate substantial success for Oral Fixation Vol.2. In fact, despite its contagious melody, the tune is simply too weak for a first single which main function is to introduce the album to the public. A better choice would perhaps have been Animal Farm which seems more representative of Oral Fixation Vol.2. Yet the primary setback with Oral Fixation Vol.2 is the lack of good songs. Besides Hips Don't Lie & La Tortura, there are no instantaneous hits on the album. Indisputably, some of the songs are highly enjoyable e.g. the susceptible Illegal featuring Santana depicts a fragile Sharika, singing of loss & deceive. It is a beautiful tale of a woman having been betrayed by her lover. The Depeche Mode-esque Timor showcases Shakira experimenting with new sounds, while Dreams for Plans reveals a lovely melody which functions quite well with Shakira's poignant voice. Yet despite several enjoyable tunes, the overall impression of Oral Fixation Vol.2 is a mixed affair. On the whole, the melodies & lyrics are feeble -in other words, they are mediocre at best. Hips Don't Lie is, for myself, the path Shakira should strive towards - the fusion between South America rhymes & modern pop, yet Oral Fixation Vol.2 seems to pullin a dissimilar direction. I respect artists who wish to experiment with different sounds, yetin this case I don't think Shakira is capable of doing so.
Oral Fixation Vol.2 contains the dazzling Hips Don't Lie & La Tortura which are, undoubtedly, the best tracks on the album. If you buy Oral Fixation Vol.2in the hope of hearing comparable songs to Hips Don't Lie, you will be severely disappointed. I would advise people, if possible, to listen to the album before purchasing itin order to pass their own judgement & avoiding being disappointed by the result.

Is there a 4 and a half star option...? - By: Ozzy Carroll, 23 Aug 2006
Formerly a passing fan of Shakira, I only really got into the Colombian temptresses music with the Fijacion Oral, Vol 1. CD which, although sungin a language that I do not & will probably never understand, is simply excellent. As a result, I bought previous albums, including her first English work Laundry Service, complete with the primo pop song Whenever Wherever & the superb Donde Estan Los Ladrones?
Naturally, I was eager to listen to Oral Fixation Volume Two, even though I was rather underwhelmed by first offering Don't Bother. The release & and subsequent global success of Hips Don't Lie has since tempted me back to it & listening to the album with the benefit of a killer song like that is certainly useful.
Ultimately, there doesn't seem to be an all-round song that will likely deliver a second number one, but with a better grasp of English compared to Laundry Service, with exception to the rather curious album title, Oral Fixation is a confident release.
As for potential follow-ups to Hips Don't Lie, I would be intrigued should the bizarre, electro-pop Timor is released - corny, but deliciously captivating, it is a song that demands to be listened to, whether it is loved or loathed. Indeed, there is no middle ground for a song like this.
Costume Makes The Clown or Something would also be interesting releases, although ultimately I would kill for an English version of the superb La Tortura, arguably my fave Shakira tune yet. The Beatles-esque Hey You & aggressive Animal City are also an acquired taste, but Shakira's rather quirky image prevents them from sounding as out of place as they would anywhere else.
The only reason why I don't give the album the full five stars is the rather soppy offerings Illegal & The Day & The Time, which do little for me, but they are nonetheless beatifully written & sung.
A curious but ultimately satisfying mixture of Latin, pop & soul makes this album well worth a listen, even if just for Hips Don't Lie or La Tortura.
