A great debut album =) - By: Seth, 26 Mar 2008
I first heard of P!atd years ago & considered buying their album...but after listening to the previews I decided to give it a pass, it didn't really seem like my thing. However, a few weeks ago my friend was trying to get me to buy an album too so we'd get the special offer...and the only thing I could see was this album, so I thought "Why not?". If you think it sounds okay from listening to the samples I say Go for it! It's only £5. When I first listened to the CD, what striked me most was how different each song sounded. Admittedly, at first I thought the lead singer sounded just like the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, but the more I listened the more different it sounded, & P!atd is nothing like anything I've ever heard before. It combines 'emo' rock with dance music & a certain 'jazzy' touch, perfectly I would say. My favourite songs would have to be Nails for Breakfast Tacks for Snacks, I Write Sins not Tragedies & Build God Then We'll Talk.
Also, check out P!atd's lastest single, Ninein the Afternoon!
Panic! At the disco (By THE SMITHS!!!) - By: Pmgoss, 08 Sep 2007
When I got this album I was still finding out what kind of music I liked. And I've got to say that this genre isn't exactly my favourite (being more into experimental music) I will still rate this album fairly regardless of the commercialism.
1. Introduction 5/10. Some random static & a voice that links to the next song...
2. Only Difference Between Martyrdom & Suicide Is Press Coverage 8/10. A catchy song with a good chorus & is quite interesting at the end.
3. London Beckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines 8/10. PATD singing about their fame & that the weather has something to do with critics, very intersting lyrics.
4. Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks 7/10. Not a very interesting track & the chorus isn't particulary catchy but an OK song nonetheless.
5. Camisado 8/10. A strong song with the chorus 'Can't take the kid from the fight take the fight from the kid.' Very good.
6. Time to Dance 9/10. A nice synthy beginning with Brendon singing with a nice hint of emotion. Shotgun wedding.
7. Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off 9/10. Like the other song full of emotion but slighlty less complex & has a better chorus.
8. Intermission 6/10. Some random piano... but it's an intermission so I can't say much about it can I?
9. But It's Better If You Do 9/10. The single about the burlesque. It's very simple so all you need to know is that it's burlesque themed.
10. I Write Sins Not Tragedies 10/10. It doesn't get ten just because it's the song that everyone's heard but because it was the first one I heard three (yes THREE!!!) years ago. Has interesting lyrics about a wedding gone wrong & is very catchy.
11. I Constantly Thank God for Esteban 8/10. A basic song with a catchy chorus...what more can I say?
12. There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't... 9/10. Has an interesting them to it & sounds very jazzy. Something about Brendon being a Cancer...well I'm a Libra.(sorry that was cheesy)
13. Build God, Then We'll Talk 10/10. Starts off nice & weird about intimacy & then has some loud chellos near the end.
If you're into this music then be my guest & buy but don't attack me for not being interestedin this music; not everyone likes the same thing.
Not at the top of their league - By: Hunter, 16 Aug 2007
Without wanting to criticise Panic too much i have to say that this album, while containing some good songs, is nothing compared to other bandsin the same genre.
If you are looking for a Punk-rock/Emo album I would recommend the much more polished & developed sound of Fall Out Boy (They sound so similarin every way that the only way to distinguish between them is that the better songs are Fall Out Boy's).
Alternatively Elliot Minor have an album coming outin November which will be well worth it.
Despite this review i still think this album is good, it is well worth buying. I am simply recommending that people who are new to this genre might prefer bands such as Fall Out Boy & Elliot Minor. But still a good record.
AAAAAH! part2 - By: Scott Wallace, 11 May 2007
for the guy who said that panic is just liek all other "emo" style bands you couldnt be more wrong panic are very unique & different the only think they do the same is use a guitar :O... & for complaining about life they dont really do that either, this is a very good album & deserves to be bought.
Back to the old skool - By: R. McCardle, 07 May 2007
As a fan of both emo & older electro stuff, I fellin love with this & couldn't recommend it highly enough.
The disco beats give it a funky, upbeat sound that pefectly compliments the misery-laden emo side of the deal!
