Not ultimate at all - By: Pieter, 30 Oct 2008
Eurythmics made some of the greatest sounds of the 1980in many genres, not just the standard synth-pop. Lennox & Stuart also made a major contributionin the forgotten band The Tourists before the birth of Eurythmics. Unfortunately this album contains too many tracks already available on Greatest Hits.
Some less inspired songs from the 1990s have been added. This really shows a lack of interest & imaginationin view of the huge treasure trove of classic album tracks. The compilers could have chosen The Last Time from Revenge, Jennifer from Sweet Dreams, Shame & Beethoven (I Love to Listen to) from Savage, When the Day Comes Down from We Too Are One & Belinda & She's Invisible Now from the obscure first album In the Garden.
But for those who never got round to Greatest Hits, it's a worthwhile purchase. Every rhythm they took, they made their own: consider the catchy calypso of Right By Your Side, grand rock ballads like Thorn In My Side & When Tomorrow Comes or the perfect pop of Love is a Stranger. Their emotional range is unique: the chilling menace of You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart makes a stark contrast to the joyful exuberance of There Must Be An Angel or the powerful affirmative Sisters Are Doing it for Themselves.
Good - but similar. - By: Jackie Coupe, 21 Jun 2006
The majority of items on this disc are the exact same as the
Eurythmics collection previously released & already a part of many Annie fan's collections.
The tracks are crisp & clear & the re-mastering is evident, Annie's voice front & centre, as it always was.
'I've got a life' - was new to me, I didn't find it as good as anything on the album 'Bare' & whilst powerfully sung I didn't feel it wasn't any new tack for the group.
'I saved the world today' - again, not as good as anything on 'Bare', you get the sense of a message perhaps lost, we know her music does have a lot of saving graces but the world?
Maybe I missed something there.
Some classic items here, 'Thornin my side', 'Sweet dreams', 'Miracle of love' - to be fair though any fans already have thesein their collections.
Only buy if you don't have the first collection or if you are a die hard fan.
I did & don't regret it, I just didn't feel as though I got anything really 'new'.
Hit and miss - By: M. C. Batson, 15 Mar 2006
This album is good to listen to, it has all their biggest hits & the hits that weren't as good as their biggest hits.
I personally prefer their biggest hits & there is a lot of them on here but not enough to make a good album which is a shame. There classics that everyone knows like Sweet Dreams are on here but unless you are a really die hard fan I wouldn't bother with this.
I am glad i bought it for the hits that everyone knows one or two of but it was a little dissapointing for me to be honest & i wouldn't of bought it if i know that it wasn't as good as it could of been. It's just an old greastest hits being repackages to make the record company more money.
Tremendous! - By: J. A. Cumming, 16 Feb 2006
A really great compilation from a great band. Annie Lennox's unique vocals make this a musical treat. With excellent tracks ranging from the anthemic to the vaguely melancholic, plus the outstanding new single 'I've Got A Life' this album really is a must have! Superb!
Eurythmics Serve Up A Tasty Meal That Doesn't Quite Fill You - By: , 06 Jan 2006
Annie Lennox's hugely distinctive voice powers through this compilation of soem of the Eurythmic's greatest songs. Dave Stewart's production is genius & Lennox breathes energy into every song, especially new track, "I've Got A Life," classic, "Sweet Dreams...," & the Rio carnival feel of "Right By Your Side." One problem however, there are some of Eurythmics bes songs are missing. Where is "Angel," & "Beethoven?"
In effect the pros outway the cons & this is an essential album for anyone who does not already own a Eurythmics Greatest Hits Compilation.
