Not As Heavy As Epica - Better Vocals Than New Nightwish... - By: Adam Jackson, 10 May 2008
I've only had this a few days so im still getting my head around it.
My initial reaction is that it's a little lightweight - it's not as heavy as Nightwish & there's none of the contrasting Death Metal vocals that work so well for Epica. The Evanescence comparisons are justified, certainlyin the vocals & overly clean guitar sound.
On the plus side, it's nicely produced, i applaud the band for using a real orchestra & three tracks have grabbed me; The instrumental intro which is really good, See Who I Am & Aquarius.
**I'll probably update this reviewin time as these are just my first impressions**
One thing for me though is i've yet to hear any female fronted Metal with vocal work as good as Nightwish's Oceanborn or Therion's albums. I love the more operatic approach over the style shown on The Silent Force. To be fair, Sharon Den Adel at least is way better than the mediocre Annette Olzon now plagueing Nightwish.
And yes, Sharon may well be THE hottest womanin Rock!!
Absolutely brilliant album. - By: W. Stirling-Edge, 12 Jan 2008
This is brilliant stuff. Quite simply - aural ecstacy. It oozes class.
I've been searching for years for an album by a (heavy) rock group that would really be uplifting & would satisfy my musical "hunger". This is it, this is the one.
If you are a rock fan of any sort, you need to get thisin your collection.
The mixture of the excellent female vocal, the orchestral sounds, the heavy riffs, the atmospheric melodies, the contrasting & beautiful haunting slower tracks is breathtaking.
Each track is strong & "memorable" and, after a couple or three plays of the album, you'll not be able to get some of the tunes/riffs out of your head.
It is the only album that has ever sent shivers up my backbone & given me such adrenaline rushes on the first listen, let alone the hundredth time I've played it, since about 6 weeks ago!
I dropped onto this album by accident by following a link, after listening to quite a bit of Nightwish.
In my opinion, this group are far better than Nightwish & are going to be absolutely GIGANTIC. I understand they are growing rapidlyin popularityin Europe - it's not difficult to understand why!
I have also bought all WT's other albums & DVDs, on the strength of this - & I really love their work. Their live act on the Silent Force tour, which I saw on the DVD, is excellent.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this group live next time they come to the UK.
I would give this album 20 stars out of 20. In my opinion, it's the closest to "rock album perfection" that I've ever heard - & I've been listening for about 40 years!!!!
Fantastic, simple as that. - By: jk-digital, 10 Sep 2007
A truly wonderful album,in my opinion superior to any of Within Temptation's other albums. The dramatic introduction leading through to 'See Who I Am', my personal favourite track of this entire music genre. If you are interestedin getting to know Within Temptation I would encourage you to look no further than this album. Unlike most modern albums this features a good variety of songs which you will not get bored ofin a hurry.
Is this the best album ever? - By: M. Thomas, 08 Sep 2007
I read the review by 'Dramatic Leigh', who obviously encountered Within Temptation during their earlier days & really enjoys that sort of music. I agree that 'The Silent Force' is very different to earlier works, butin my case this was the first WT album I bought (purely on a whim - the cover looked interesting but I knew nothing about the band...) & this is an EPIC piece of work. Having been completely blown away by this, I went & bought all their previous albums, but to me they had definitely evolved with time to reach their zenith with 'The Silent Force'. Unfortunately, the latest album ('The Heart Of Everything'), sadly drops off the peak of brilliance: it's pretty decent, but incomparable with this. This is WT at their best.
I'm not the first to sayin writing that Sharon Den Adel has the best voice of any female vocalist on the planet, but that's exactly what I thought when I first listened to this album 2 years ago - & having seen WT live this year I can confirm that she needs no studio trickery to produce that sound. The rest of the band deserve a mention, of course - this is quite possibly the best album I've ever boughtin ANY genre & all credit to the whole group for creating it. They are stupendously good performing live as well.
I gave this album 5 stars only because it wasn't possible to award more - it deserves a placein everybody's collection & I'm sure thatin decades to come this will be rated among the finest goth-rock-metal (call it what you will - I just call it brilliant...) albums ever produced.
Buy it, buy it, buy it - you will be glad you did.
