Great value for money - By: , 04 Dec 2005
Positives: Every Christmas carol you can think of, sung by a variety of very good choirs. This is excellent value for money & certainly puts youin the seasonal mood. It sounds like most of the carols were recordedin cathedrals too, many with organ accompaniment, which gives the voices that authentic echo of chilly Christmas services.
Negatives: As it is a compilation of pieces sung by different choirs, the voices & musical accompaniment (organ/orchestra) do change from carol to carol. Also, I'm sure I spotted a couple sung with American accents, which was quite odd, as this is a quintessentially English collection.
Very glad I bought it though.
You gets what you pays for - By: Budge Burgess, 30 Nov 2005
I won't call this a cheap selection - I'll call it an economical one. You get a lot for your money - every major Christmas carol you can think of, & a few you possibly haven't heard before. It's quite chocolate boxy, it's quite bland, it's inoffensive. This is not the greatest selection of choral music around, & it's certainly not something you'll play at any other time of the year. But for background musak, to help you conjure up Christmassy spirit at home orin your workplace, it's a very effective & very economical choice. Not to be played at full volume, but something you can sing along with. You get what you pay for - this is Christmas trimmings, not a full scale Christmas feast.
Stale as a cold Xmas pudding - By: Kurt Steiner, 10 Mar 2005
I saw this album advertised on TV - all the classic Xmas jingles creating that jolly atmosphere Christmas holds for some of us.
This compilation is, however, a disappointment. Most of the songs & hymns are choir sung & not always well known - well at least not to me. Obviously, it did not entirely put usin the most jolly of moods. Consequently, listened to it once & then put it on the shelf. As one guest said, it's gloomy.
