Non-metal - By: T. Young, 18 Dec 2008
I was given this album for christmas a few years back & found it again only a couple of days ago and, upon relistening to the album, I have come to the conclusion that most of the other reviewers here have also come to. This is NOT metal, not for the most part at least. There are some metal tracks such as "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, "Burn" by Deep Purple & "Number Of The Beast" by Iron Maiden, but other than that I would place most of themin the category of glam rock & as for "How You Remind Me"... well that's a long way from metal to say the least.

That said however I did enjoy this compilation alot & however defficient it isin living up to its title it's still a good album. If you want a kind of rock/metal/glam casual music compilation then this is a very nice rounded album but for those who are looking for a good metal compilation this is probably not for you.
Album does NOT justify its name - By: Russman, 14 Mar 2008
Some of the best heavy metal bands - AC/DC, Accept, etc. - are missingin this album. And, on the contrary, lots of songs which cannot be treated as 'heavy metal' arein there instead.
swings between heavy metal and hair metal! - By: spike, 30 Dec 2007
this is not a bad compilation what keeps this afloat from sinking into mediocrity is the tracks from Queen, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Skid Row, Posion, Riot, Quiet Riot Megadeth, Whitesnake, UFO, Michael Schenker, The Scorpions, Alice Cooper & Black Sabbath etc but its ashame they where not spread out onto one disc rather than two which is why im only giving it 4 rather than 5 stars it deserves.
Good, but could have been better - By: , 17 Dec 2005
Here is my song-by-song review of 'The best heavy metal albumin the world.... ever!'
1. Queen- We will rock you Good, classic song 8/10
2. Van Halen- Aint talkin bout love- very good, when I bought this album I hadn't heard any Van Halen before, this brilliant song introduced me to this legendary band. 9/10
3. Iron Maiden- Run to the Hills One of Maiden's best songs, great guitar riff 9.5/10
4. Motorhead- Ace of Spades- heavy, brilliant song. Pure energy. 9/10
5. Black Sabbath- Paranoid Black Sabbath's staple song 10/10
6. Deep Purple- Burn Good song, but a little too long 7.5/10
7. Alice Cooper- School's out- famous song, but there are better alice cooper songs out there 7/10
8. Mountain- Mississippi Queen Don't really care much for this song 6/10
9. Nazareth- Bad, bad boy Alright, but nothing spectacular 6/10
10. judas Priest- Breaking the Law Great song with brilliant, energetic riff 9/10
11. Uriah Heap- Easy Livin' Very old song (but not very heavy) 6/10
12. Montrose- Rock the Nation- Above average song 6/10
13. Sweet- Action very good song, with some great vocals & guiter work 8/10
14. Ted Nugent- Cat Scratch fever- Good song 7/10
15. ZZ Top- Tush Another good song 7/10
16. Saxon- Wheels of Steel Alright song, its not going to set your world alight 6.5/10
17. Riot- Born to be wild Not sure why this is on here instead of the original classic song, not a very good cover 6/10
18. Poison- Talk Dirty to Me Above average song for this commercial eighties band 6/10
19. Quiet Riot- Cum on feel the noize- this is an example of a good cover, classic, energetic song. 9/10
20. Skid Row- Youth Gone Wild I had heard alot of criticism of this band, however this song is a perfectly good rocker 7.5/10

Disc 2
1.Iron Maiden- The number of the beast Iron Maiden's best song. Classic rocker 10/10
2. Black sabbath- War Pigs Another classic song by the best heavy metal band ever 10/10
3. Deep Purple- Smoke on the Water The most famous guitar riff ever accompanies rather average lyrics. 8/10
4. Run DMC feat. Aerosmith- Walk this way Classic guitar riff, made even by sharper by this song. However Run DMC take away the 'heavy metal' sound of the song, probably should have put the original on here 7/10
5.Whitesnake- Here I go again Not heavy metal, however it is such a brilliant track you won't care 10/10
6. Yngwie Malmsteen- Vengeance Good, heavy song 7/10
7. Megadeth- Holy Wars The only thrash metal song on this compilation. Great song 9/10
8. Sammy Hagar- Space Station No. 5 Rubbish song from the former Van halen singer. Brings an end to a good run of songs. 3/10
9. The Scorpions- Rock You Like a Hurricane Superb, catchy song from the German rockers 10/10
10. Wolfsbane- Steel Uninspiring song. easily skippable 4/10
11.Motorhead & girlschool- Failsin comparison to Motorhead's other song on this compilation, still a sturdy, rocking tune 6.5/10
12. Michael Schenker Group- Armed & Ready Poor song from ex-scorpions member 4/10
13. UFO- Doctor Doctor second consecutive song from michael schenker, this one just as bad as the last. 4/10
14. Queenshryche- Eyes of a Stranger Average song, from a great band 5/10
15. Thunder- Love Walkedin Rubbish, easily skippable song 4/10
16. Nickelback- How you remind me Poor song, from these tiresome new 'rockers'. 5/10

The average score for disc 1 is 7.5/10 The best out of the two discs. Some classic heavy metal anthems.
The average score for disc 2 is 6.7/10 Starts of with some brilliant songs, but slowly turns into a poor, uninsperational music. the second half of disc 2 really lets down what could have been a classis CD.
Overall this compilation gets an average score of 7.125/10, which just earns it 4 stars.

To put it simply, as many other reviews have stated, this compilation is not a true representation of heavy metal. How can a heavy metal compilation only contain one thrash song, Slayer & Metallica are necessities. As are rock bands like Guns n Roses, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Rage against the machine, Ozzy Osbourne solo material & Sex Pistols to name but a few. Also, many tracks on this compilation, to put it simply, are rubbish. This could just come down to my personal taste, but I the makers of this CD should be able to filter out bad tracks & insert good ones instead.

Allin all there is no denying that there are some quality tracks on this compilation, it is just a shame that the makers did not consider putting some music from other legendary rock bands on here & cut out the few bad songs on this compilation. A good effort, but could have been so much better.

Not Heavy Metal, but okay - By: Jonathan, 29 Jul 2005
I would like to start by saying that the 2 star rating which I'm giving this compilation is not reflecting the songs, as they're a perfectly competent selection of tracks. But who could honestly call this album heavy metal. Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden is pretty much the only song on the album that I could put down as heavy metal. (I don't have the tracklisting so I may have missed one). Queen & Nickelback are good bands but I wouldn't be stupid enough to say they were heavy metal ever.

This album is undoubtedly going to make a few people angry. Where are Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Motorhead, Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Deep Purple or other greats? The marketing of this compilation was so incredibly & indescribibly un-thought-outin its chosen words heavy metal! Write it off as Air Guitar 4 & forget that the whole mess ever happened.
