Lighter than their first, but equally as amazing - By: Dominic Goulding, 16 Apr 2010
Having just reviewed Explosionsin the Sky's prior album (Those who tell the truth) I have decided to go with the momentum & review this little gem.

So what do Explosions bring to the tablein this outing? Is it like the last album? Well, yes & no really. Don't worry, I'll explain myself. As the title of the review says, this is a lighter album. It's all clean, none of the big orchestral riffs bounding their way around to be found here. Still some bombastic drumming & tense moments though.

Because it's all clean there is more room for the nice spaceous passages from the first album to breathe... whilst they are repetetivein form they never feel it because they are always building towards something more... & that something is always breathtaking.

Again, like their first this is a concept album, this one is considerably more upbeat however. The concept is about a dude waking up from a coma & renewing all his love for the world & the peoplein it, there's a bit of a love story underlying it aswell. Unlike the first album there are literally no vocals or lyrics here, not even a bit of talking. So how do I know what the concept it? Well I don't suppose I can claim to actually know... but from the artwork, the title, the lyrics & the mood of the music this is the feeling I get. I'm sure other people have their own ideas :)

If you liked their first album, or any other post-rockish album ever, then you'll like this too. Now I'm off to review something that sucks coz my review list is full of 5 star reviews & I don't want to look biased.

A masterful slice of post-rock, and accessible too - By: Adam Jackson, 08 Jan 2010
This album was my introduction to post-rock. After exploring a little further, it remains one of my favourites, & a great introduction to the genre. It's beautiful, it's loud, it's creative & it's well-produced. The pacing & structure is excellent, & feel much less repetitive than many other post-rock records. The recorded sound of Explosions In The Sky is almost indistinguishable from their live soundin the clean sections. The loud sections sound more compressed, but this does not spoil the atmosphere too much. If you want louder you're going to have to go see them.

To me this is a perfect gift item because for a fiver you have something very accessible, yet deep & a fine introduction to the genre. Great as "background music" but really something special if you play it as loudly as you can get away with on a good sound system & let it wash over you.
Disappointment - By: Paul Barclay, 05 Jan 2010
Am trying out what is called 'post rock', following recomnedations via Sigur Ros. That led me to Mogwai, which has so far proved interesting, & immediaitely liked. However despite persevering with several listens, I have found this album a bit boring. That applies especially to the first track, which just goes on...and on, & I do normally like long tracks. The following tracks are a bit more interesting, but not stand out so. Perhaps their other albums are better?
Sweep Me Away Explosions - By: M. Littlemore, 06 Dec 2009
Instrumental rock never sounded so good.

This category of music gets mixed responses from people, through my own experience of introducing Explosions In The Sky to friends & family over the years.

This is by far their greatest album, orin my opinion it is. Welcome, Ghosts is a sublime start, & the whole album feels like a constant flow, to the point where you barely realise the song has changed until youre 2 or 3 songs into the album. The guitar work is eerily atmospheric, butin a good way. It puts guitarists like The Edge from U2 into a lower class.

And then the finale, Your Hand In Mine, arguably their greatest song. Ive never felt such emotion coming from one song. Its the kind of song that could sweep you awayin the evenings, leaving you feeling completely relaxed. Its incredible how a song can have such an affect.

For anyone that hasnt experienced Explosions In The Sky, do yourself a favour & watch Friday Night Lights. Yes its about college footballin America, but almost all of the music is done by Explosions In The Sky, & every song is used at just the right moment throughout the film, punching home the emotions experienced by the players & keeps you captivatedin every scene.

A must-buy for anyone even considering sampling this band.
A Simple Review - By: Mark Bond, 17 Jun 2009
Here's 2 ways to listen this album -

1. Shut your curtains, Lie down & shut your eyes.
2. Get your ipod, press play & run.

You will feel every piece of stress become unimportant as this album takes you away, whichever option you choose. Either way, if you appreciate soothing sound vistas this will be for you.
