ECLECTIC MIX OF 60s CLASSICS - By: Pieter, 14 Dec 2003
This is a great collection of 1960s classics that includes Motown (Supremes, Four Tops, Martha Reeves), vocal pop (Foundations, Dion), reggae (Desmond Dekker), folk (Simon & Garfunkel, Lovin' Spoonful, Dylan), Spector pop (Shirelles, Shangri-La's), country (Glen Campbell), MoR pop (Andy Williams) & great rock (Jeff Beck, The Kinks, The Animals).
My favourites on Disc One are Jimmy Mack, The Israelites, Pretty Flamingo, When You Walk In The Room, Mrs Robinson & Swinging On A Star. On Disc Two I love Son Of A Preacher Man, Runaway, Turn Turn Turn & Where Do You Go To My Lovely. All the songs are truly excellent though & demonstrate the lovely variety of styles of that famous decade.
My only complaint is the lack of anything by Donovan, Françoise Hardy, Joan Bees, The Rolling Stones or The Beatles, since these artists are synonymous with the 60s. Besides that sin of omission, this is a wonderful compilation that is worth its weightin gold.
