THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY.... - By: KJW, 06 Apr 2008
This is one of my favourite CDs. Playing it on a high end hi-fi system shows it to be a superb recording, (and don't be put off by the fact it is LIVE), & has Diana Krall singing & playingin superb jazz style. What a pity she no longer makes good jazz CDs like this one.
A performance of a lifetime - By: David Calcano, 09 Jul 2006
Well, well can more can I say about this joyful & energetic Jazz album... this is the proof on why Diana Krall is considered among the best performers of a new `Jazz Movement' from the last years. Her piano playing is unique & her sensible AND sensual voice makes you feel the atmosphere of the 1940s within a 2000s surrounding; her band's performancein this live album demonstrate they could play anything...
No matter which song you listen it will always sound like Diana Krall, she is probably the only performer that makes me forget about Sinatra when she sings `Under my Skin'... her version of `Just the Way you Are' is bloody amazing, so moody & with such heart.
This is the perfect album to get into her catalogue...

Let the music play!
Cracking fire, intimate lover and a relaxing sofa! - By: , 20 Jan 2004
When i came across this album, it was playingin a public shopin London. Loved the sounds, so relaxing, calming & unique. I have always been a great fan of artists such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire etc. . But this was different. Each song was so unique. For those of you whom are more streamlined, & like artists like Norah Jones. . . then you will appreciate Diana Krall. You may not have heard of her simply because she does not get modern airplay as Norah does. Relax & enjoy.
Everyone should listen to this album - By: A. Wasenczuk, 30 Jul 2003
No, seriously, this is the best I've ever heard. What does she do? She sings contralto & plays piano, with (really good) guitar, string bass & drums as backing. But the more I listen, especially to this particular album, the more impressed I get. Diana Krall clearly subscribes to the school of acoustic performance that says that anything live is always twice as fast & three times as good as a recording. Play it to your mates, play it to your granny. You just can't fail to be moved even by the first opening chords; & the pace never lets up. It's a timeless evocation of happier times. Anyone who has any respect for musicin any form should listen to this & see how it should be done.
Established, classic pieces given a breath of fresh air. - By: M. Thompson, 21 Jan 2003
First things first, if it weren't for the intermittent periods of audience ovation you'd swear this were a studio recording rather than a live one. The sound quality is excellent throughout while maintaining an all important live edge. In such a setting, Canadian jazz vocalist Diana Krall gives each song she performs room to breathe, allowing for some rather electrifying, virtuosic improvisation moments with her talented band. Throughout, the performances are some of Krall's most jazz-sounding yet, indicating she seems to really understand & feel jazz.

As ever, choice of repertoire sees Krall taking the safe & familiar route, which you might argue is starting to make her sound somewhat 'established', yet never tedious. There is no need for concern. In ten years time if her albums sound like this there will be few complaints. Krall's voice - developed, adaptable & oh so finely tuned - is an extremely complementary lead to her band. In addition, her piano performances are nothing short of brilliant. The improvised sections flaunt Krall's great rhythmic & technical aptitude, while her solo introductory piano solo to "Devil May Care" reveals a keen grasp of restrained, subtle jazz. Moreover, she sings & plays piano at the same time, which adds to the overall shape, form & versatility of each piece.

The most interesting thing about this album is the charm & spirit that Krall manages to inject into long-standing & endlessly covered songs. She makes them entirely her own. The improvised sections lend a hand to this also, making A Night In Paris sound remarkably fresh & new. In the gorgeously serene "Let's Fall In Love," Krall's seductive, sensuous voice smoothly graces the jazz harmonies, while tracks like "'Deed I Do" & "I Love Being Here With You" best suit the band's great rhythmic panache. Meanwhile, the Billy Joel-penned "Just The Way You Are" is a studio recording generously treated with Krall's sumptuous, subtle musicality. An album, then, that is well worth investigating. The entire concert sounds excellent & delivers jazz how it's intended - live.
