Dug this album out this morning for the first timein a while. Sick beats meet a bunch of MCs at the absolute top of their game.
This rates as my favourite straight hiphop album, & is J5's best work to date.

This is my favourite J5 album, they have a unique vocal sound & great beats, this is a essential addition to your CD rack, definatly worth buying
Breathtaking - By: Krish Singh, 25 Nov 2006 I try to keep an open mind when I listen all types of music, but for the most part (regardless of genre) mainstream music is complete garbage. Oncein awhile though, you find true ARTISTS, people who take music to a new level through innovation, technique, & expression. Rock music has Tool, industrial has Nine Inch Nails, country had Johnny Cash, & hip hop has these guys. First & foremost, Jurassic 5 are pioneers. I first heard of J5 through the video "The Influence" & was immediately hooked. The complexity of their samples from Cut Chemist & DJ Nu Mark mixed with the beautiful rhyme melodies of the MCs is simply a breathtaking combination. The guys keep this wondrous formula with Powerin Numbers, but whereas Quality Control was a more "happy" album, Power takes a little more serious side (due to maturity? who knows, who cares, it still sounds great :) ). Dont get me wrong, theyre still upbeat reminiscient of the days of De La Soul & Tribe Called Quest, but maybe more with a "dark" overtone. And thats what I love about this group. I honestly dont wanna hear another Quality Control album....been there, done that. I love a group whos able to explore new directions & is willing to take chances without any consideration if this album is gonna make it on the MTV airplay or how much commercial recognition they will achieve. The highlight for me was High Fidelity, its just mesmorizing hearing that flute play while the guys chant over the beatsin a barbershop quartet fashion (the samplingin the middle of the song is a work of art also). Other notable tracks include Whats Golden, A Day at the Races, & Freedom. I dont care what you "normally" listen to, this album is a must have for any music loverin general.
Simply stunning - By: Will Stent, 17 Nov 2006 I am a fan of a wide scale of music, & probably have interests or favouritesin any genre of music. I bought this album on the pretext that it was similar to Will Smithin it's smooth & classic style, & I had heard an excerpt of 'A Day At The Races' - but what I discovered that this album was so muchmore. It's now one of my favourite albums of all time, & with good reason.
In this day & age, the whole 'homie rapper' thing is whereing a thin, with egotistical rappers bouncing around & sprining up everywhere. But this album is not, I repeat, is not a rap album. The artists themselves do not describe themselves as rapper. They are rhymers. It's more of a chilled out, calmed down rapper with a positive outlook on life. And that's probably the best way to decribe this album; cool & positive. The guys bounce of each other brilliantly, with a genuine love for what they do. It sounds amazing. Their licks are smooth & smart, full of wit, irony, whatever lititary technique you care to mention. Their contrasting voics add much to the songs, & the group sections are a highlight. But then, where would all these brilliant rhymes be without a good & solid backbeat? Well, this is covered, thanks to DJ Nu-Mark & Cut Chemist, two excellent MCs with a passion & uniqueness to their tracks. There are none of the plain, gangsta rap beats here, but melodic, movin' & interesting beats that match the talent of the rhymers.
In short, a legendary album; truly astoundingin every sense of the world. Buy it; you won't regret it - that's a promise.
Yeah - By: Duncan Stagg, 28 Jul 2006 First things first, i'm a metal head. This album is among my collection of opeth &in flames. This album is excellent, perfect for a nice hot summer day chilling with friends. This is what all hip hop should be like, soulful, musical & most importantly fun. The bassline on 'Whats Golden' is amazing. There isnt a weak song on the album but some of the highlights include: Freedom, High Fidelity, Whats Golden, Thin Line, I Am Somebody & A Day At The Races.
