This album by the stunning Alicia Keys is by far the best debut album of 2001.
A great debut . - By: Egbert Souse, 02 Mar 2008
This album unleashed the talents of Alicia Keys to the public , & what a debut ! . Everyone should be familiar with the single " Fallin' " , but there are tracks on the album that are as good , if not better . Worth a placein anyones record collection .
Soulfull Diva - By: , 29 Aug 2004
This album is my favourite album yet out of a collection of 200 CDs! The tones & textures complement each other thought the harmonise cords. This album is the one were you can sit down after a hard days work relax maybe with a bottle of wine & just play right through not having to worry about getting up & hitting the skip button. Songsin A minor is not only for relaxing its for all occasions, dinner partys, driving, dates ect.

I could go on & on about they way she uses dynamics & tempos & how the merge of all the notes make you tingle, but it would be best for yourself to buy the album & enjoy the angelic voice of Alicia Keys.

Alicia is the new queen of RnB - By: Cynthia Selene, 27 Nov 2003
I thought piano belongs to classical music, not to modern R'n'B. I was wrong. This CD is something new & original & Alicia is a true talent. The best songs are the 4 singles, but the others are also worth listening, my favorite non-single tracks are Jane Doe, Butterflyz & Rock Wit U. I'm glad I bought the special edition 'cause this remix of "A Woman's Worth" is so COOL. (A hint: don't turn off your CD player after listening it... wait a few minutes. :)
The CD also contains a weblink to a page where you can find videos & some Alicia stuff.
Good - but what's all the fuss about? - By: , 16 Nov 2003
Hmmm...well, this review's probably going to incur the wrath of everyone upon my unprotected head...but what the the hell I'll say it anyway.

First of all - this is NOT the greatest or my most favourite album of all time. I've heard so many people going on & on about the amazing talents of Alicia Keys. Well, yes she is talented & as a performer she's amazing. Each time I've seen her performing live on TV I'm blown away by how confident and
great she is. But I don't believe the album reflects this.

It starts off promisingly enough. Piano & I is a great introin a creepy kind of way (and I love the combination of classical piano & drum beat). So let's give it an 8/10.

Then comes Girlfriend. At first I didn't like the song, but the catchy riff & chorus has grown on me. Another good song.

How Come You Don't Call Me is next. Well, the single release was different, & to my mind superior, so I was pretty disappointed to hear this. However it's not as bad as I thought.

Fallin'. Aha. Here's what it all comes down. This is possibly the best song on the entire album, & its overall brilliancesuccess & popularity meant I expected the rest of the album to be the same. It isn't. That was probably why my high expectations were lowered.

After this song, the others all seem to blend together & despite numerous listenings I honestly can't recall any of them until...

Jane Doe. Track 8. YES!! This one is good. Very good. Catchy, musical (maybe not that PC considering it's along the lines of 'I can't live without my man' etc etc.) It really lifted my spirits.

Then blahblahblahblah boring until...

Track 11. Mr Man, the duet with J.C. I love this song. The great latino vibe, the gorgeous merging of two very beautiful voices, a clever story toldin the verses...it blew my mind! I can just picture the two of them slyly yet wistfully (if that's at all possible!) eyeing eachother from opposite sides of a club/restaurant while their partners drone on & on. This is a wonderfully theatrical song. Nice violin too.

And that's it. Yep. There are probably one or two ballads I liked that I can't remember, but apart from that the rest of the album didn't appeal to me much. Sure the songs may be great musically but I just can't remember them catching my attention.

However, this is just my personal opinion. Loads of people loved Fallin' & Girlfriend AND love the rest of the album too. Maybe you're one of them. But to me the tracks were just too...well, they weren't my thing. I'd give it a miss

I recommend the AMAZING Katie Melua (album out now). A must for everyone
