Keep this to yourself because we don't want everyone knowing this – Amadou & Mariam are brilliant… & hardly anyone beyond sandal-sporting, Afro-philes knows about them. Wati is either their third or fourth album (it's difficult to know because we get such precious scraps of their musicin the UK) & it's as amazing as Tje Ni Mousso & Sou Ni Tilé. They are a Malian couple (incidently they're blind) who mix traditional African rhythms & voices with western pop melodies. Their music possesses a genuine joy for life & you can imagine them beaming broadly as they play their life-affirming melodies. Get Wati before it becomes as tricky to acquire as all their other CDs.
