Come With Us For A Wayward Journey - By: D. Shaw, 21 Jan 2008
Come With Us is patchily brilliant, but sounds a world away from 1999's Surrender. This is not to say that Tom & Ed should not stretch new boundaries, but the album sounds incomplete & unfocused, a weakness which plagued 2005's Push The Button. The stomping title track, with acid loops, vocoder vocals, & eclectic beats, is classic Chemicals, & Star Guitar is one of their finest achievements. Galaxy Bounce does bounce, & Hoops contains a terrific My Bloody Valentine guitar within a track that accomplishes everything. Yet from here, the album struggles, with the messy "My Elastic Eye", & the meandering "Pioneer Skies". "It Began In Afrika" made the album cut because of its popularityin Ibiza, & certainly sends you on a journey, but Beth Orton's vocals on "The State We're In" fail to take you anywhere. "The Test" is a big, bold finale, but you still feel Tom & Ed could have done much better.
hmm the start of the decline - By: a_burn, 26 Jun 2007
dont get me wrong this is a good album, but it just lacks the style & karisma of the past material. i think this is where they started to change. "come with us" & "star guitar" are awesome tracks, "galaxy bounce" & "denmark" are also worth a good listen.
i just think some of the other tracks are quite weak; "it beganin africa" certainly didnt do it for me.
i first heard star guitar on one of the world rally championship games & didnt realise it was the chemical brothers. this however is a brilliantly made track, & i think all would agree
Very good - By: , 12 Jun 2004
May lack the special guests this time round (apart from Ashcroft), but this is polished stuff, & proves the bros arent out of business just yet, Surrender is obviously still the favourite, but, watch the videos of the singles on this album, very clever, but you just dont realise it until you see it.
TRULY IN A CLASS OF THEIR OWN - By: Chemical boy, 20 Feb 2003
This album has all the sweet, fruity, goodness of all previous Chemical Brother Albums. From the Outrageously spine trembling, mind blowing, ground shaking 'Come with us' through the chilled out 'the state we're in' to the cool yet downright pumping 'The Test'. The first thing I felt when I put this album on was the hairs on my neck rising, just before my eardrums burst! Nobody but nobody does hip hop, dance, rock, techno... whatever you want to call it, like these guys. Anybody who has ever come close have not even came near to producing 4, I repeat 4 albums of this superior quality. Every time you listen to a track there's always something new that can be heardin the background whizzing past or tingling through the inner realms of your brain. Get all of their albums if possible! You will not be dissapointed. PURE GENIUS! The brothers are gonna work it out!
Come With Us....... I'm With You - By: , 09 Aug 2002
What a pleaser.
I love this album, mind you i love All their albums.
I'm not sure if you've noticed (this ISN'T criticism) the formula
First track: Slower, but mind-blowing
Second trak: Faster/Facefiller, cool hit to it
Third track: Intelligent/Facefiller, Hard NOT to put it on repeat
Fourth trak: Cool, very cool
Fifth track: Active/Jumpy, contains a bit that ensures you lose your mind, if you ahven't already done so
Sixth track: Different.
Seventh one: Different again/Chilled
Eighth trak: Restores your psychotic want for more
Ninth track: Slightly chilled/Very Mellow
Tenth track: Chilled-out feel to it, but keeps you with them
(Where Applicable)
Eleventh: Unpredictable
Cool. But it's the realisation that strengthens my need for more, (and waiting for them to prove me wrong)
Anyway, All the trax on this are Great. "Pioneer skies", is a bit depressin', but acceptable.. i still love the album.
As for "The Test"... When i first heard it, It was on the full length video; I found that both-together were spiritually enhancing. The song on its own, though, is also uplifting.
"Hoops", is a great favourite of mine. I first thought "Star Guitar was depressing, too... but then i listened to it whilst walking to skool, sun shining, & realised what an amazing track it really is.. not depressing at all.
"It Beganin Afrika", is a Spine-breaking Tune. SO damn Catchy, & so great.
When I heard "Galaxy Bounce" on Tomb Raider, It didn't do it justice. It demoralised the best bit of it by not playing the bits before it. "Come With Us", stomping tune. Great when performed live. "My Elastic Eye", sounds a bit like 'The Avalaches', But it grows on ya, & you soon find yourself bodypopping to it.
"The State We're In", is totally mashed off it's Nut.
but "Denmark", is an amazing House Tune, one of the best one's on the album.
And that's where i end, Check out all the stuff by the Brothers. Thanks for caring enough about what i think to read it this far.. Safe. L8rz
Bye
PS. Yes, that IS "It Began In Afrika"in the beginning bit of the video for "The Test"
