Outstanding - By: Ken Grew, 09 Jun 2006
I heard Eivind playing on a Bendik Hofseth album recently & realised that his electronic sound was similar to David Torn (who has performed some of my favourite music ie Clouds About Mercury & with Bruford/Levin on BLUE).
Light Extracts confirms his style & sound to be a mixture of Torn & Terje Rypdalin a more modern soundscape. The range of sound throughout is exceptional & kept my attention (which is not easy).
This is without doubt one of the most interesting albums I have heardin years. I love it & will be buying more from this gifted musician.
If you are a fan of Torn / Rypdal / Bruford Levin or Fripp & Eno /Fripps Soundscapes you should give this album a listen. If you like 1000mph or flash guitar playing then you may not relate to the texture & depth of sound on this outstanding album.
Broody, North European, Desolate and Haunting - By: N. A. Bakhshov, 26 Dec 2002
A much anticipated follow up to the eponymous Electronique Noire. The music is dark, icy & at times buriedin an impenetrable fog. But it worksin a strange way. It does not reach out to you but asks you to draw closer, to quieten the surroundings & listen carefully.
I think it works & Aarset has a unique guitar talent.
Stunning ! - By: Rob Jessep, 28 Aug 2002
Aarset is no ordinary guitar player- you don't hear many guitaristsin this world making the kind of sounds he gets out of his electric guitar. If you are a fan of Nils Peter Molvaer then you should investigate this album without fail. One track even has the trumpet genius as guest. Be warned though- there is a track towards the end of the album that sounds like the very end of the world itself- 4 minutes or so of extreme noise! I love it- makes the last tracks sound like you've died & gone to heaven!
