I do not like live recordings appearing on CDs when I am expecting the studio cuts that I wanted to buy! This double CD, although containing some classic material was very disappointing for me, as most of the 'big titles' are live. Piaf was a wonderful artist, both live &in the studio but as one who prefers studio recordings, I feel a little cheated. If sufficient information had been availablein the listing or on the CD packaging, it would have saved me from wasting my money!

Excellent from beginning to end - many of her most popular songs all on one ridiculously cheap CD.
The only song missing is Édith's version of La Marseillaise (if Carlsberg had ever written National Anthems - they would have written this one).
Incredible that such richness & depth of sound could have emanated from such a frail form - this is not the voice of a "little sparrow", the range & power is immense. Listen to this album & understand why she was so revered - she put the 'belle'in "La Belle France".
If "Hymne a L'Amour" fails to pluck your every heart string, you must be made of stone.
If "La vie en rose" fails to transport you to a Parisian pavement café, you must be a Francophobe.
If you can find a better version of "Je ne regrette rien" it won't be on this planet.
France just blew out of my speakers in to my life. - By: , 01 May 2002 So much for so little. A whole nation on two CDs. That Edith is a great & accomplished singer isin no doubt. This CD gives us Anglos instant access to a huge range of her work. Live, duets, struggle, life, love, jazz, popular, they are all here. Standard barer songs, that you will think you have know all your life, even, if like me, you can not understand what the lyrics mean. I wish I had paid more attention at school. Vive la republic!
