One of Madge's best....... - By: Dino Amore', 03 Aug 2007
For me, this is one of Madonnas best all round albums, & yes, its better than Ray of Light. This has a very distinct sound & identity, & there is not a bad track to be had. The tracks have excellent range, from thumping dance, to ballad, to beautiful lyrics. For me, the only bad track is American Pie, which for my money is a poor version, being slowed down, & 're-imagined'.
That said, this should sit proudlyin anyones collection. A great album from a great artist at the top of her game. GET IT!!
Madonna - Music - By: Dreaming, 23 Dec 2006
It will be quite hard to beat the below reviews but I will try with this review....

As you know, this album was releasedin 2000, after her 4x Platinum (US), comeback album, Ray Of Light, which is the most common favourite Madonna album, although I disagree. Music is more distinctive & unique, although does also contain some very catchy popular dance songs, the first being "Music", which to be honest, is definitely not my favourite. It seems like a very simple song, but does have a very catchy & distinct chorus, which was the reason why it got to #1 all around the world. The next song is "Impressive Instant". It is a fun, catchy song, & follows the disco/dance theme of the previous track, &in my opinion, is a lot better. "Runaway Lover" is another cool dance song, but not one of my favourites - it doesn't really go anywhere, but is still a fun, catchy song to some extent - I like the lyrics though.

The last seven songs are the best seven songs on this CD, & some of them are Madonna's best. They are all personal & Madonna really shows her emotions, like she did on Ray Of Light. "I Deserve It" is about Madonna's current husband, & is about how they were meant for each other etc etc, & how Madonna has no regrets & deserves her fame. The subject matter may not be very original but the lyrics are great, as well as the beats & I love how this song builds up into a nearly masterpiece, & I love strange synthesizer solo. "It's Amazing" is another song that follows the "quiet first-verse-which-leads-in-to-a-loud-chorus" routine, like many of my favourite albums do. "It's Amazing" is a song that I didn't like very much at first, but I love it now. It follows the same 'routine' as the previous track, & works very well. It has a wide range of influence form country to dance to pop to trance to who knows where, which makes the song very unique & distinct. "Nobody's Perfect" is the first really strange songs on this CD, & this is why I like it so much, & unlike many, I love how it is so overproduced. Madonna sings about an event where she was not perfect, was dishonest etc & is another personal song.

"Don't Tell Me" at the time it was released, was one of the best Madonna singles ever (with Secret & Like a Prayer). This is another 'country' song, & has a great video. The strings are also great, & I especially like the laidback-ness of this song, & strange synths, & the extended outro. It was the follow up to the lead single "Music". "What It Feels Like For A Girl" may even be better than "Don't Tell Me". It is a very 'nice' song, & I guess it is about the man's point of view about what is feels like to be a girl. It is also about sexism to an extent, & is Madonna's daughter favourite song from Music. Other adjectives would be relaxed, sexy, relaxed, beautiful, catchy, & it was the third & last single from this album (excluding track 2, which was only released as a club single)

"Paraside (not for me)" completely blew me away. Madonna proves that she is more original, creative & unique than any other popstar (maybe except for one), & this song clearly supports that. It is such an inaccessible song about fame, basically & her childhood. The song starts out with only vocal & percussion, & some strange synths then come in, which really takes this song up to 'the next level' before Madonna starts to speak French (Madonna write this with a French guy, whose name I cannot remember), so to put it simply, this is one of Madonna's best songs, definitely. The closing track, "Gone" is one of Madonna's underrated where the acoustic guitars return. This has been interpreted very widelyin different ways, but it basically is about all of the things the above nine tracks - it makes an excellent closer. This is one of Madonna's best songs lyrically, & the chorus is absolutely beautiful.

8 / 10
Another Superb Effort - By: Ian Phillips, 04 May 2006
Madonna returnedin late 2000 with this superb effort, following on from the critically-acclaimed & grammy award winning success of what is still possibly her greatest album yet, Ray Of Light (1998).

The album would be titled Music & would again offer the sound of the future & continuedin a vaguely similar format to Ray Of Light. Madonna worked with a multiple number of producers on this project which included William Orbit (who also co-produced Ray Of Light), Mirwais Ahmadzai, Guy Sioworth & Mark "Spike" Stent. Music, offered another set of a diverse range of tracks that were both adventurous & compelling which has always been the genius of Madonna as she still never ceases to amaze & surprise. Madonna has always had that uncanny ability to be experimental & creative & still always come out on top.

The title track, Music is a monster dance-floor filler. Containing a swirling electronic pop-funk vibe, Madonnas playful delivery gives startling ignition to this slick offering that caught onto the public like a magnet. Unsurprisingly & very deservedly, Music became a cross-Atlantic chart-topper.

Impressive Instant is another startling & mesmerising tune with its strikingly synthesised effects & driving grooves. Would have made a perfect choice for release as a single as this would undoubtedly have been another monster hit.

Runaway Lover, is a mid-tempo dance number that contains another series of bizarre, synchronised sounds thats still vastly origanal & highly inventive with its unique musical arrangements. Actually Runaway Lover does admitedly sound like a left-over track from Ray Of Light, but still is utterly impressive.

I Deserve It has a remarkable combination of electronic-dance, with its again, synthesised effect, blended neatly into an arrangement that has a country twinge to it. A moody, acoustic guirtar ballad, the song is blatantly a touching dedication to her husband, Guy Ritchie, an immensley talented film director, whose credits include the two cult classics, Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrells (1998) & Snatch (2001) You get to more fully apprerciate Madonnas striking vocal abilities here, & she putsin a powerful & passionate performance as always the case with Madonna.

Amazing is a highly stylized, guirtar-powered & uptempo William Orbit collaboration who works his magic yet again with Madonna as he had done so consistently on the Ray Of Light album.

Nobodys Perfect is one of the more commercial-orientated singles though those synchronised & echoey sound effects are still clocking away amidst the musical arrangements & Madonna delivers a subtle, exuberant vocal performance, neatly surfboarding along the complex arrangements.

Don't Tell Me, returns again to the neatly gelled mixture of Dance/Country & delivers it with seemingly a vengeance. Madonna has always been sassy & street-smart & its nice to see she hasn't lost any of her magical touch over the years & if anything she just gets better & better!

What It Feels Like For A Girl, is a more sultry, grooving number that is effectively mellowin its content & is a nice way of beginning to wind the album down. Certainly has many musical merits & this also was lifted as a single where it became another rapid Top 10 seller, though its mix is different to the version on here.

More atmospheric was the stormy, moody, Paradise (Not For Me) where Madonnas slightly chilly delivery sends shivers down the spine through its trance-like arrangements. One of the more adventurous & inventive recordings on here!

Finally this rollercoaster ride of an album begins slowing down with two impeccably delivered Dance-Country numbers, Gone & her fabulous renedition of American Pie which rounds the album off on a high note.

Expectations were high after the classic Ray Of Light set which was one of the most significant albums of the 1990's & certainly one of the biggest of Madonnas career to date. The album generally received critical praise but was often unfairly compared constantly to Ray Of Light (which often came out better) but you should really judge this album on its own merits as there are enough individual qualities of its own & is consistently excellent, bubblingin a remarkable multitude of styles.
