I have been searching for the track Perfida by Phyllis Dillon since 1977 when I heard it prior to the main band taking the stage at a punk rock concert, at that time I had no idea who sang it. Last May (2000) I saw Joe Strummer at Brixton & he was still using the track as a warm up recording. Still I had no knowledge of who recorded it & the title. Eventually I heard the track on Jonathon Ross' Radio show & e-mailed him & he kindly gave me the deatils. That track alone is worth the cost of the album, although the cd is peppered with gems from the ska & rock steady era. Some of the recording sound as if they were perhaps recordedin Duke Reids bathroom, but hey this is the roots of Jamaican music, recorded before the Tighten Up days & the re-interestin reggae that happened during those wonderful days of 1976/7! Buy it if you miss your youth & hark back to 3 cord madness. Wonderful!
