All the essentials including Mama Cass solos - By: Peter Durward Harris, 31 Oct 2004 The Mamas & Papas were formed after the break-up of a little-known short-lived group called the Mugwumps. Other members of that group formed the Lovin' spoonful. This compilation contains all the essential hits of the Mamas & Papas while they were together.
The classic Mamas & Papas songs are all here including California Dreaming, Go where you wanna go, Monday Monday, I saw her again, Words of love & Creeque alley. These are classic slices of sixties folk-rock, some of which at least you must be already familiar with.
Alsoin this collection are their great covers including Dedicated to the one I love (Shirelles) Do you wanna dance, which was originally an American hit for Bobby Freeman but later became a British hit for Cliff Richard & an American hit for the Beach Boys. Dream a little dream of me was over forty years old when the Mamas & Papas recorded it - this song was actually the first Mama Cass solo recording though the group was still united at this stage. Some of these covers were also hits for the Mamas & Papas.

If you just want a single CD of Mamas & Papas music, this is a good one to choose. If you are thinking that a single CD may not be enough, I recommend the double CD, Singles plus.
I can dream, can't I? - By: Robert Park, 25 May 2004 This indeed is probably the best selection of 'The Mamas And The Papas'. It was thoroughly enjoyable listening. Mamas Cass sings beautifully those lyrics 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me' & 'I Can Dream Can't I' & so can I. It's such a pity that she's lost to us & at such an early age too.
Classic American pop - By: , 28 Mar 2004 Cass, Michelle, Denny, & John together led the Mamas & Papas into the rock'n'roll hall of fame. And, deservedly so!!
Cass's voice soars. I close my eyes & float among the clouds when she sings. Mama Cass's voice is legendary. These songs are classics.
California Dreamin' for a day in the new millenium - By: Joanna Daneman, 18 Mar 2004 Oh, this one will take you back to those sunny summer days, sitting outside on the grass on campus, wearing a long granny dress & wire-rimmed spectacles (hey, those are backin style!) & sipping some wine while listening to the Mamas & the Papas on the transistor. Funny, though, this music is still appealing though nothing like it is being played today.
The smooth harmonizing of the group, highlighted by the clear, flexible & gorgeous voice of the late Mama Cass is surprisingly cheerful even today. The laid-back tone is great for weekend play, whilst cleaning the house or writing checks to pay bills. It makes me nostalgic--I guess I still love the same music I playedin the 60's. Sigh.
