A work of sheer genius - By: Mr. I. J. Garner, 19 Dec 2006
This album is one of the greatest live albums ever made
Every track is better live than recorded.
Train In Vain is so much better than the recorded version as are Complete Control & Career Opportunities.
4 years since Joe left us but his bands music lives on.
Theres one hell of a gig going onin heaven!
RIP Joe Strummer 1952- 2002
Ever get the feeling you've been cheated? - By: B. Crist, 19 Feb 2006
What there is of this disc is fantastic like everyone else says; my complaint is with the weasels at Columbia who didn't even have the decency to fill it. I did a little research, & it turns out that compact discs can actually hold up to 74 minutes of music. Why this information was unavailable to the geniuses who put this disc together I can't imagine. I am fortunate enough to livein the US, so at least I got an extra track: "Know Your Rights." Well, when it comes to getting your money's worth from giant corporations, it seems you have none.
fantastic live music - By: , 29 Dec 2005
Make sure you read the booklet;the Clash fans' devotion to the band is fitting for a band that loved their audience.
Great music, though most of it was recorded on the last US leg of the "Combat Rock" 1982 tour.Joe Strummer(RIP)is at his snarling best, the music is really rocky, even on the reggae("Armageddon Time")and the audience at the various shows are really up for it.
If you ever saw the Clash, you'll have wonderful memories evoked. If you didn't,you'll fel like one of the fans who writesin the booklet that he would sell his grandmother if it meant he could see the Clash live.
RIP Joe-what songs are you teaching the angels now?!?
From here to eternity, Joe RIP - By: Nicola Allport, 13 Jan 2003
I stumbled on this live CD`s only recently whilst looking for Strummer related material after his very shocking & saddening death.I am very selective when it comes to live albums ensuring that a band has the quality to produce powerful & tight music without the luxury of endless overdubs. This album is a fantastic journey through the clash`s career with superb recordings of well crafted & well executed tunes. From the opening chords of complete control you know this is special live album. The highlight for me has to be White Manin Hammersmith Palais. You will find this CD on nice price so get a copy, turn up your stereo & raise a glass to Joe RIP.
The Magificent Four - By: , 08 Feb 2002
It starts with "Complete Control" shaking the foundations of your house. You have to remember that the sound you are hearing is being made from just four guys playing livein front of an audience. The first half of the CD parades live versions of some of their early classics, all played very well. The 1982 version of "Career Opportunities" sounds a little slower than the 1977 original, but otherwise the live versions are as good, if not better, than the studio versions. The live version of "Capital Radio 2" (based on the "Cost of Living E.P." version & different from the free "Capital Radio 1" single) is an example of the live version blowing the studio version away.
Then we get the later tracks (from "London Calling" onwards). These are slower & quieter than the ealier stuff, but there are some fine versions. "Magnificent 7" is brilliant - 100 times better than the version that appeared on "Sandinista". Another surprise is "Guns of Brixton" which sounds so much better than the version on "London Calling". There are a couple of tracks towards the end of the CD which maybe should have been excluded, but on the whole a brilliant live album which helps show just why the Clash had so much respect.
