Charlie Parker On Dial - The Complete Sessions

Customer Reviews
All the great Dial recordings, with lots of alternate takes - By: , 11 Jun 2002 There is no doubt that this is a great album, the music is very fresh, sounding far more modern than 1946/47 recording dates might suggest. As a step from more traditional or swing style of jazz it makes a good intro into early & very tuneful Bop. It is worth being aware that the list of tracks may be a little misleading however. As with many 'complete' jazz albums there are a great many alternate takes of the more popular tunes. They also tend to be recorded one after the other, you will find yourself listening to 4 different versions of a track like Dark Shadows, all improvised & a differentin their own way - this can be both intruiging & frustrating depending on your point of view - the Spotlight best of Dial double CD may just be a better bet for general listening. Whatever your preferences this is great stuff
