Fantastic - By: Mr. W. E. Squire, 20 Apr 2008 This album is utterly fantastic, the debut from the best female vocalist the music industry has ever seen when she first heard Vision Of Love. Her amazing range, power, soul & emotion its just beautiful. With dramatic & soothing tracks like I Dont Wanna Cry & Love Takes Time, to the sassy Someday, & to the haunting Vanishing. This album will not disapoint. Its a classic.
The definition of "Phenominal" - By: Tricia, 03 Apr 2008 Now I'm not one to review old music, but when it comes to Mariah Carey, my favourite artist ever, her music never seems to age! Mariah Carey's self-entitled debut has to be one of the most vocally superior albums of all time. Her true vocal splendor is put to the limitin the haunting piano ballad, "Vanishing". Carey is well known for composing music that is related to death, & so she showcases this emotively effectivein "Vanishing". Her ultimate vocal diversity is distinctively featuredin "You Need Me", one of the many occasional rock-influenced anthems Carey has producedin her career to this day. The adding of electric guitars & crystal-clear vocals create a naff punk-theme! "There's Got To Be A Way", is quiet possibly one of the greatest songs ever written. The lyrics describe how unfair the world is today, through racism, poverty & lack of equivalency. Mariah argues "There's got to be a way, to connect this world today, come together to relieve the pain/ There's got to be a way, to unite this Human race, & together we'll bring on a change". Of course, Mariah throwsin an impressive whistle note as a treat for us spectators!
"Alonein Love" is splendidly produced; Mariah's resplendent vocals ripen as the ice cool tingly beat sweeps along. "Love Takes Time", a classic signature ballad from Mariah, is a mellow demonstration of the true elegance her voice withholds. The melody glimmers as Carey's exquisite lyrical talent shimmers! "Sent From Up Above" is an angelic mid-tempo banger with eastern vibes blaring. As always, Mariah's voice proves nothing less than glorious. "Allin Your Mind" is a funky filler, with a pinch of R&B totted, & a true highlight at best; with vibrant backing drums & bird-chirping from Mariah, this nifty number will get you sweating for sure! "Prisoner" may well & truly be the most divergent anthem MC has ever recorded- main reference to her novel rap. As being the only song Mariah has ever rapidly spoken in, you can only give such high praise & solution for such a desire that Carey has successfully achieved! "I Don't Wanna Cry", a tear-strolling masterpiece, is another sensational ballad. The lyrics refer to a relationship that has tragically deteriorated & Mariah has tried her best to revive, but failed, & so she decides the best thing to do is just let go.
"Someday", a bubbly up-beat filler, is groove-packed & an absolute ace party-knocker! The impact the superb backing music has on Mariah's vocals is sheer fabulous! And of course, who can forget our fave Songbird's debut power ballad, "Vision of Love"? A marvelous love song which exhibits the impressive vocal talent of which Carey possesses. "Mariah Carey"in all true honesty has to be the greatest debut album I've come across. The reason I love this album is mainly because the majority of songs are fast up-beat fillers. Plus, Mariah experiments with unfamiliar sounds & differs her voice persistently. Also, like every Mariah album, the lyrics are includedin the CD's booklet. I'd say that "Mariah Carey" is a must-have for Mariah fans everywhere, new or old, or just general Pop music lovers. If you love great Pop music, or genuinely take a liking to Mariah's music, then you need this albumin your life! If you haven't already, then buy it now!
a great album and a great voice - By: dan the fan, 17 Jul 2006 This is my favourite Mariah Carey album.I like every song on it- her voice is so clear & beautiful & full of life.The first song,Vision of Love,is as good as anything I've heard from anyone.The last song,Love Takes Time,is just so fresh & original!And all the songs made me want to sing,dance or both.
Most Stunning Debut Album - By: , 16 Jan 2004 This is certainly the best debut album i ever heard. Such a great debut has not been releases since "Whitney Houston"in the eighties.
The album gets started with a song that even now is still one of Mariah's greatest songs, her debut single & first US number one "Vision Of Love which includes perfect & remarkably strong vocals & amazing drum beats, it such a genius idea for a song, so well written.
"Theres Got To Be Away" sounds like a ballad at the start but it proves itself to be a breathtaking up tempo song which shows what Mariah wanted everyone to know, she can sing & she can write like nobodys buissiness.
"I Don't Wanna Cry" is emotional & pitch perfect, a ballad with the voice that i idolise coming throw so strong. I love it!!!
"Someday" is faster with those strong & immaculate vocals pouring through it, it has a great beat & was Mariah's third US number. The voice is what makes you fallin love with Mariah but her skills as a songwriter & producer are the best i know & even at the start of her career this woman knew what she was doing.
"Vanishing" is another one i fallin love with, her skills as a songwriter are displayed here very well & this could easily have been a single.
The songs on this cd all stand out & give you an album that will never be off the stereo. "Love Takes Time" is a very saddening & emotional song & is one of Mariahs great many outstanding vocal performances, i love it & you will as well. If you've heard a Mariah song & liked it then get this album & become bedazzled by this remarkable artist. My favourite artist EVER!!!!
