A Very Good Place To Start - By: David Lusher, 06 Oct 2007
This is a good collection of Simon & Garfunkel's wonderful work, & a good place to start if unfamiliar with their music. However, I prefer their double disc 'Tales From New York'. That collection expands on what is here, particularly including some of their important early stuff, & is a better representation of the diversity of their music.
One of my most personal albums - By: Jay, 09 Mar 2007
This is a diamond of an album! Some of the songs must have been composed from an alternate world;a world that reflects our inner desires, & one that plucks our heart strings once melodies such as "Emily", "Sound of Silence" & Bridge of Troubled Water. There are no bad or even averagesongsin this album & if I could give six stars,I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

Still Magical After All These Years!!....... - By: Michael Bermingham, 11 Mar 2006
H'mm....first bought this albumin the mid-seventies.Its a fine intro' to the huge talent of Simon & Garfunkel. The tracks are gleaned from four of their five original albums & as such are a fair sample of those original albums. That said this is still only a sample & there are many fine songs not included here.Still this album contains all their major hits, from their first 'Sounds of Silence' right through to 'Bridge' & 'The Boxer' off their last album. It gives a good cross section of the different type of songs that Simon was so good at creating. From the isolationist 'I Am A Rock' to the merry 'Cecilia'(a plea to St.Cecilia-patron saint of music to come back & assistin the writing of more music), this album covers all moods. There is not one bad track here but mention must be made of the beautiful 'America' & the smash hit 'Mrs Robinson', both taken off the classic album 'Bookends'.
If you enjoy this you should buy the original albums as they are all excellent, even the neglected 'Wednesday Morning 3A.M.'.
Yes a good intro' to their music & excellent value at this price.Buy & enjoy...you can't go wrong!!
A truly enjoyable collection - By: C. MCCALLISTER, 18 Jul 2005
Simon & Garfunkel's "Greatest Hits" has long been my favorite album (Yes, I really do own records & a turntable), & "The Best of Simon & Garfunkel" is a fine update/expansion of the record album.
For any music lover who is unfamiliar with the music of Simon & Garfunkel, you owe it to yourself to listen to this CD twice. The first time, just sit back & see how the music affects you. The second time, listen to the lyrics closely. Simon & Garfunkel understood the human condition & portrayed it beautifully through their music. "I Am A Rock" describes depression perfectly; "Cecilia" clearly conveys the joy & heartbreak of love; "The Sounds of Silence" gives the mood of inner city America; "A Bridge Over Troubled Water" is a perfect description of love & friendship (right up there with "Stand By Me").
When I wasin college, my humanities professor used Simon & Garfunkel as the epitome of modern poetry & compared them to the bards & troubadors of medieval times. You knew what you were talking about, Mr. Essen.
