Definatly in the top 10 of all time - By: vincent brain, 07 Mar 2008
Beautiful dance/rave culture/trance/pop/rock n roll euphoria.

this is an epic album, of gigantic proportions
the opener 'Movin on up' is a 70's rock style track with help from a gospel choir, jazz piano & chirpy guitars. then comes 'slip inside this house'. although not written by the scream, the bass guitar & percussion are beautiful, a gloomy yet booming song. 'Dont fight it feel it' is the most uplifting song ive heard. it plays into your brain & any fan of music will appreciate the singing.

the the highlight of the album 'higher than the sun' is a dub epic. althouugh on 4mins long it really will knock you socks off, i cant express just how cool & ice this song is, you have to hear it to realise ther beauty.

other key tracks are 'Loaded' a very famous rock song, a classy gem & 'come together' which is absolutely genius, second only to 'higher than the sun'. & 'damaged' i feel is forgotten about for this is acoustic guitar & piano, make the vocals sound beautiful

Impressive blend of styles - By: Pieter, 15 Dec 2007

This was one of the best albums of 1991, at least as rated by the critics. The music certainly represents a breathtaking array of influences, styles & textures that is well enough integrated for a cohesive musical statement.

Movin' On Up is a soulful slab of rock with lovely female vocals, whilst the next two are psychedelic trance-dance pieces. Slip Inside This House being more straight-forward tribal dance whilst Don't Fight It Feel It is a trippy, trancey number with quirky burbling synths.

Higher Than The Sun is a slower number with atmospheric soundscapes whilst Inner Flight is even slower & more ambient with some dreamy vocals. Come Together is a mid tempo rhythmic track built around a male vocal speech followed later by oneiric female vocals.

The tribal rhythms reappear on the long track Loaded with its mildly amusing spoken intro, appealing melody line, voice samples & bursts of sound. A drastic changein sound & tempo comes with the gentle ballad Damaged, firmlyin the rock tradition with great guitars & sensitive piano.

The next one, I'm Coming Down, is even slower & more laid-back with mournful sax, an apt description of the process namedin the title. The penultimate track, Higher Than The Sun: A Dub Symphony, contains more atmospheric sounds & spacious vocals than the earlier version, & the album concludes with Shine Like Stars, a shimmering slow psychedelic number.

It's very difficult not to compare this album with psychedelic masterpieces from the past, like Love's Forever Changes, the 1960s psychedelia of the Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd & Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix. Fans of Screamadelica should definitely also investigate the work of the ambient tribal house UK band Astralasia.

screamadelica - one big scream - By: S. Saffaf, 27 Oct 2007
This is (in my opinion) the best Primal Scream album ever made. The first song 'moving on up' kicks starts this energising album, which is one of the best from the 90's. 'Slip inside this house' is also, a great & funky song which basically sums up the whole of this abum: GREAT IN EVERY WAY

Their maserpiece. - By: dynamitekid156, 29 Dec 2006
Jammed on the edge of baggy & before Britpop comes what many consider to be Primal Scream's first real album, after their first two had such minor impacts. A genre-blending masterpiece, it finds Bobby Gillespie & company mixing psychedelia, gospel, blues, country, baggy & dance music into over an hour of head-wrecking, drug-addled brilliance.

This album boasts just about everything a great album needs - variety, instant classics, strong growers, & even one duff track that you can cut out if you feel it necessary ('Don't Fight It, Feel It'). Aside from the undeniable strength of the material here, the sequencing of it is genius. Gospel-tinged opener 'Movin' On Up,' which is scarcely related to anyhting else here, is a God-bothering, 'Amazing Grace'-aping guitar tune with no synthsin sight. It isin no way a preparation for the rest of the album.

It's followedin quick succession by a trio of dance-flavoured tunes. The baggy 'Slip Inside This House' is one of the best songs here; the aforementioned 'Don't Fight It' is the weakest song on the album, led by an incessantly annoying cricket sample; & 'Higher Than The Sun' is another peak moment, its closing minute of synth washes & samples absolutely stunning.

Big single 'Loaded,' with its infamous opening dialogue sample, shows the Stones influence that would crop up on their next album, closely followed by the wonderful 'Damaged,' a lovely country ballad & then the last real centrepiece song, 'Higher Than The Sun (A Dub Symphony In Two Parts),' a good companion piece to its earlier incarnation.

This album is essential to anyone remotely interestedin any or all of psychedelia, baggy, dance, indie, or musicin general. Utterly essential.
