Hauntingly beautiful solo piano jazz.- By: Jazzrook, 13 Aug 2008 Although the bassist/composer/bandleader Charles Mingus could never be described as a piano virtuoso his playing on this overlooked 1963 solo album displays more feeling & imagination than many over-hyped contemporary jazz pianists. The piano was always important to Mingus when creating his compositions & it's fascinating to hear him alone at the piano playing seven hauntingly beautiful improvised originals plus four meditative standards. This marvellous CD repays repeated listening & deserves a placein any Mingus collection.
