I Love Music... - By: D. B. Dalglish, 25 Sep 2007
This record doesn't require much analysis because at it's core, it's just very simple. It's straight up piano trio work from an absolute master, whose playing style is like a cross between Erroll Garner's & Oscar Peterson's.
Always heart felt playing butin a way that manages to not become to heavy & difficult. Just very relaxed. There are great versions of Dolphin Street & Stolen Moment, but my favourite has to be the inventive I Love Music. It is a perfect example of how Jazz can verge on the classical but still remain free from conventions & restraints.
It's a record I play all the time. It's beautiful & easy, but matured & sophisticated music that should really be better known.
Tremendous - By: Scott Mcgowan, 12 Apr 2006
The usual thing written about Ahmad Jamal is that Miles Davis greatly admired his musicianship & playing, & after one listen to this you'll hear for yourself. Excellently recorded, brilliant trio date from 1970 & the version of Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments" is sublime. Jamal has a truly unique voice & the music has great dynamism. No empty-headed jazz runs here, just great music. A great, chill-out, jazz masterpiece. Essential.
