Dexter, Noodles, Greg K, Ron...Thank You. :D - By: S. Horsfield, 11 Jul 2006
This album was the 3rd album from the offspring. Ignition was great but didn't get as popular. But as soon as the videos for 'Come Out & Play(Keep 'Em Seperated)' 'Self Esteem' & 'Gotta Get Away' were released they hit big time.
Then Ixnay was amazing. The First 4 Albums were the best & i can't choose between them.
I love the later albums too but they could have done so much better on Conspiracy Of One. Which if i had to choose would be my worst album.
But anything by the offspring is first class & i love them all.
The Offspring's Definitive Album - By: Chris C, 13 Jan 2006
It seems like a good time to look back at one of the biggest selling punk albumsin the nineties. In approximately nine days, it will be ten years since the release of Smash. So what better time than to write a review on it? :-)
Smash to The Offspring is what Definately Maybe is to Oasis, despite ten years of great music, Dexter & the rest of the group have never managed to make an album that is as consistently great as this one. I know many people might disagree with me here, but even if Pretty Fly did get to number one, it never matched the sheer class of Come Out & Play.
The album begins with a tonguein cheek introduction telling the listener to lean back & enjoy the melodies. However, this is not the type of album you can just relax to, & that is pointed out from the moment Nitro kicks in. The music is much more faster & rawer here with songs like Genocide, Something to Believe In & Not The One.
However, there is also the type of music that most people will know The Offspring for like the poppiness of Gotta Get Away & Killboy Powerhead. But it also delves into anger & paranoia with the dark Bad Habit & the twisted Self Esteem. If this does not get my point across then just think after you play this album, Pretty Fly will become less & lessin your most played list.
Here's to ten years of classic songwriting, catchy hooks & brilliant riffs. :-) Buy It!
offspring - smash - By: , 16 Sep 2005
this is easily the best CD offspring has done, it includes alltime greats such as 'self esteem' & 'come out & play'. Obviously the band themselves think so as the played loads off this CD at their Glasgow gig september 2005!!
The best thing to ever grace my ears - By: Mr. B. W. Smith, 09 Jul 2005
Oh my ears this is good. U like americana & conspiricy of 1? U ll either love it or hate it. The lyrics are hilarious & raw. The thing that gets me - the singings totally out of tune but that makes it better. It sounds like live bandin your bedroom! Oh man i ve had this for a year - did nt like it at first cos i was an idiot. But now i appreciate proper music...
BUY THIS! - By: , 07 Apr 2005
If you weren't fond of Americana you will love this. It is my all time favourite album, it's not cheesy or poppy like Americana but instead is full of memorable tunes like self esteem which are a cross between skater stuff, metal & rock - you can't label this album. I love it, its a classic & since 1995 I have never tired of it.
