Won't be bettered - By: C. Birks, 10 Oct 2008
I've had this album SOME years now, to find it's still available is great news. Backed up the album, & bought the VHS tape of the show.
WHY oh WHY, can I not get it on DVD? I don't want to lose it to equipment outdating. How much does it cost to convert tape to DVD, & will it let me?
THIS is THE definitive Dire Straits. Forget all the other albums, start with this, & then find other albums with less repeats on them.
Dire Straits greatest annoyance, is repeating many tracks, on many albums. Chances are you will end up with some tracks several times.
ALCHEMY will have your favourite version of any track that's on it though, GUARANTEED!
One of the best albumsin the world. Where's the DVD !!!!
Alchemy Live - By: Robert Long, 17 Dec 2007
This live concert was first recorded backin 1982.
I own it on video, but for some reason it was NEVER released on DVD.
This concert gripped most of Europein the mid 80's & I can remember campingin Spain around that time. All the campersin Cypsyla (Costa Brava) seem to have a copy of the concert on their audio cassettes & it could be heard around the campsite, day & night!!!
I recently purchased the now availlable CD for my EX (Xmas present) who was addicted to Dire Straits at the time.....I think the CD is a must for you Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler) fans.
A brilliant concert....GET IT NOW!!
Love over everything ! - By: Kevin Long, 05 Dec 2007
There is no denying, I adore this album, Dire Straits were a great band, but like so many bands they go down hill after a while, but thats another story !
There is no other track like Telegraph Road, to write a song about such a subject, then inject it with brilliant guitar riffs, & some great keyboard tunes, is just simply magic.
MK simply is a genius when it comes to music, & this album certainly does not dispoint. Its a shame the It Never Rains was not on the album live, but you can't have it all.
Why have I waited so long ....... - By: W. J. Cross, 20 Nov 2007
My vinyl album is almost worn out & I'm wondering why I have waited so long to buy this fantastic live album on CD ! Dire Straits at their very best !
Best Dire Straits live material out there. - By: Paul Treneary, 13 Oct 2007
Cons
1) It's one of those live albums that was edited down from a much longer concert, or even concerts, & feels a bit short.
2) It's a shame they never took the chance when remastering to do a proper job of the fadein to Expresso Love which seems to contain 30 seconds or more of the tail end of 'Industrial Disease' - some other dodgy fades between tracks.
3) It's also a pity they didn't take the opportunity to addin a few more songs to pad out the two discs - there's only two songs over a single CD's worth of material here.
Pros
That said, this is an excellent live album & the performances are infinitely superior to the live (though not very a-live) tracks that came bundled at the end of a so-so 'greatest hits' type release a few years ago (I think it the 'Sultans of Swing' compilation).
Definitely worth the very small amount of money you have to pay for this once over-priced work - it's a must buy for any DS fan & well worth revisiting.
