a heartfelt blend of hip hop blues rock and soul - By: , 05 Sep 2001
all the songs on this album have a good lyrical base & the music creates a good mood, what if? is a good song about living somebody elses life & the ends
Absolutely stunning! - By: , 05 Aug 2000
I bought this album on a whim, not having heard any tracks & without being aware of HOP except Jump Around. Standout tracks are What It's Like, Hot To Death, Death Comes Callin' & 7 Years. Many of the tracks are either bluesy-rock or rap - but neither are a letdown. Everlast combines great guitar melodies\riffs with notable lyrics, perhaps not as great as Art Alexis, but still admirable. HOP fans beware - this is more Everclear than House of Pain. I have listened to this album solidly for a year & yet each track still sounds fresh & vibrant. There is no better compliment than that.
Almost very good - By: , 05 Jan 2000
I heard "What It's Like" & was very excited with the prospect of getting the former House Of Pain frontman's new album. While there are some very good tracks, it is let down by some rap songs like "Money (Dollar Bill)", "Tired" & "Painkillers". His singing is very distinctive but his rapping, as always, lacks skill. He doesn't try to sound like House Of Pain (even when he raps he sounds different); quite the contrary, he sounds quite unlike them.
Very different music from this former House of Pain member - By: , 16 Nov 1999
For someone who used to be a member of the rap group House of Pain, this is quite a departure. The first song I heard from this cd was "What it's like" which is one of the best songs on the cd. The other songs are a bit different, but I still find them quite funky & worth a good listen. Note - this is absolutely nothing like House of Pain so don't look for anything like Jump. It is much more soulful & really features his voice in a completely different way. There is also a song on the Santana album "Supernatural" called "Put Your Lights On" that is also remarkable & sounds a bit like "What it's like".
