bland - By: Mrs. K. A. Phelps, 27 Aug 2008
Tibetan Buddhist this is NOT. Anyone wishing to hear Tibetan Buddhist chants don't bother buying this. On hearing it the first thing that came to mind was a light music programme from Shanghai. As a Buddhist I found is most disappointing.
Chinese-y music, with chanting... - By: J. Scott, 13 Aug 2008
I have to admit that the first time I put this diskin my player I thought 'Oh no...' I have a certain amount of sympathy for the reviewer who says it made him feel like he was sittingin a Chinese restaurant. It does sound a bit like that at first.
Both the first two tracks are donein this blend of Chinese & New Age accompaniment to the chants. The third & final track is the chant unaccompanied, & it does leave you wishing the rest of the disk had been donein the same style.
Still, it all makes for relaxing & pleasant background music, so I'll give it four stars.
If you like the kind of music where Buddhist chanting meets New Age music, you should also check out "Rain of Blessings" here on Amazon. Personally I think it's vastly superior to this disk.
Not Tibetan - By: Andrej, 25 Dec 2007
This disk contains a very Chinese Buhddist style of chanting. Tibetan it aint. However, it isin regular use by me & very popular with everyone that has heard it. The first track is ideal for Tai Chi
Disapointed - By: L. Taylor, 09 Nov 2007
The third track is good but the first two made me feel like I was sittingin a chinese restaurant waiting for my meal.
Worth buying for the first track alone. - By: Paul, 10 Sep 2007
I first came across the chants on this CDin 1996 while workingin Taipai, Taiwan. I visited several buddhist temples &in one of them heard the most amazing music which I subsequently boughtin cassette form. Sadly I seem to have lost that one. Anyway I was sufficiently inspired by my purchase that I wentin search of other similar cassettes being soldin the vicinity of the temples. One of the cassettes I bought was Om Mani Padme Hum & the other was a version of track 2 from this CD. I listened to the 2 cassettes a lot & found them very uplifting & spiritual even though I had no idea what the words meant. In time the cassettes found their wayin to a storage box & remained there for almost 10 years. Then a couple of weeks ago I was having a clearout & came across the 2 cassettes again. I played them relentlessly & found them more uplifting than ever. I then vowed to find out what the words meant. With a little research on the Internet I came across this Tibetan Chants CD. To my utter delight, track 1 on the CD is the identical version of Om Mani Padem Hum to the cassette I boughtin 1996. Amazingly track 2 on the CD is the same chant/prayer as my other cassette but sadly,in my opinion it is an inferior version. It is still uplifting but feels a little lightweight & lackingin passion compared to the version on my original cassette. That said I was still considering giving this CD 5 stars as the music is still excellent & even track 2 is still good. Track 1 is repetitive for sure but I never get tired of listening to it. It stirs something inside me every time I listen to it. I find it particularly useful for when I need a boost so carry it around with me everywhere on my IPOD.
