Awful. - By: Alec Brogan, 18 Oct 2006
Wierd Al Yankovic is about as funny as finding out a relative has died. Simply changing certain words to songs & making stupid facesin videos is not witty. I hate him & everything he stands for. My ex-friend played this album excessively thinking it was funny. We no longer speak after i threatened to eviscerate him. Don't buy this, for humours's sake.
Dive off the deep end into the best Weird Al album - By: Lawrance M. Bernabo, 09 Jan 2004
"Weird Al" Yankovic's third comeback (for those who are counting) camein 1992 with what is arguably his best album ever, "Off the Deep End." Like his previous best, "Even Worse," it features a cover that is itself a recognizable parody of Nirvana's "Nevermind," which is appropriate since "Smells Like Nirvana" is the monster hit on this satirical album. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is usually picked as the greatest song/music video of the last quarter of the 20th century so its prominence makes it perfect for a "Weird Al" interpretation. Again, the music is a dead on version of the original, but the lyrics are as fine as anything Yankovic ever set to someone else's music, managing to make fun of the unintelligible lyrics of the original & the entire Seattle grunge scene ("it sure beats raising cattle").
Yankovic also took advantage of the three years since his previous album, the "UHF" soundtrack, to write what I think is his best original song, "You Don't Love Me Anymore." A couple of his other original compositions, "Trigger Happy" & "When I Was Your Age," are a notch below. When you consider how lame most of his early original songs were this is an improvement of historical proportions. In terms of the parodies "I Can't Watch This" & "Taco Grande" are both above average & "Polka Your Eyes Out" is another great polka medleys (seriously, can you do a bad polka medley of contemporary music?). This time around everyone from Suzanne Vega & the B-52s to R.E.M. & Janet Jackson are delightfully skewered at break neck speedin less than four minutes (and do not forget the drum solo), ending with the best finale of any "Weird Al" polka medley.
Weird Al Rules - By: , 25 Aug 2000
Off the Deep End is one of the funniest albums I've heard. Starting with a perfect parody of Nirvana's Smell like Teen Spirit continuing to Al's infamous Polkas through to the wickedly funny You don't love me Anymore. This album is class all the way through. This is probably the best CD the Weird one has ever done. A Masterpiecein it's own lifespan.
Funny at first. - By: , 25 Apr 2000
Trigger Happy is the best song. Some of the others are OK but you will quickly get tired of this album, & will find that it makes a much better frisby than source of musical enlightenment.
Funny view of American culture. - By: , 04 Nov 1999
At first this CD is the funniest thing I had heardin a while. The tracks are all whitty, but many are more thought provoking. The best tracks are Smells Like Nirvana, Trigger Happy & You Don't Love Me Any More. Well worth listening to, try to borrow it of a mate for a month, but buy it if this option isn't available.
