When i was young sunday afternoons were spent, it seems on reflection ,listening to the radio & programmes like the navy lark, forces favourites, ed stewpot stewart & round the horne. Cetain songs from that time take me backin an instant. Because i was still only 8 or 9 i dont always remember the artist but the song is therein an second. It was only a couple of years ago that i began to look back & find out who sang those great ballards. i found out it wasnt so much sinatra or Nat king cole that made that lasting impression it was Matt Monro. Forget all the sing bus conductor nonsense this guy had a huge talent & should have been a world wide star. (Robbie williams are you listening).Songs like "on days like these" & "from russia with love" are truly wonderful. Cover versions are made his own, just listen to "michelle" & when it comes to singing a sinatraesque ballard, his phrasing manages to steer it away from any comparison & into his own fantastic style. Buy this & enjoy timeless singing that deserves to be heard by a whole new audience.Its a buy.
Songs of Love - Matt Monro - By: Jeannie B, 09 May 2010 I bought this double cd after watching a documentary on the life & songs of Matt Monro & whilst he is a little before my time this cd has proved to be wonderful. Lots of cover versions of well known romantic ballads given his very special touch with that sexy velvet voice of his. This is a cd to be enjoyed & played over & over by anyone who isin love or who is missing a lost love. Real singers like this come only oncein a blue moon & I defy anyone who listens to this not to be moved & left with a lovely mellow feeling. Great choice & a real bargain at Amazon's great prices.
