Ninja Showcase - By: Labal, 01 Apr 2005
Ninja Tunes, Brilliant. Complilation albums, not at all brilliant.
Really this album's a four out of five, with plenty of tunes on there that would warrant a five out of five. It is, however, a compilation album. I may be irrationally prejudiced against compilations, but at least I'm honest about it!
Anyway, prejudices aside, if you do need an introduction to one of the world's finest & most eclectic record labels, then buy some Ninja Tunes material, I've not really encountered anything that's out & out bad from them. To be fair their compilations aren't bad, simply because of the wealth of musical talent that they've go to draw on, listen to the likes of Amon Tobin's 'Sordid,' DJ Food's 'The Crow' or 'Emerald Isle' by Up, Bustle & Out & you'll soon be wondering why anyone listens to 'dance' music churned outin so many Ministry of Sound-a-like clubsin the UK. Couple this with some Herbaliser & Roots Manuva tunes, & you can renew your faithin British hip-hop too!
Suffice to say that this is a really good buy, & if I give it a poor rating it's merely because I stand it next to other Ninja Tunes albums as some of the best music I've boughtin the last decade.
Smooth, Funky, Stylish and did I mention Funky ? - By: J. Franken, 16 Sep 2004
Well , the girls & boys at ninja tune seriously shows their stuff with this compilation. The Ninja cuts series only get better & better & this one proves why they are king of the ring.
Some of my favorite tracks include (but are NOT limited to)
Soluble Ducks - Almost Ambient (listen for the clicks)
More Beats & Pieces [Livein Koln] - Funky live performance
It's Just for You - Funky tune (Poppin' & Rippin' , the needle aint skippin')
Emerald Alley [Indian Morning Theme] - using Sitars that were recorded livein India... Not great , but still good:)
My personal favorites are (and this is after listening to the album a good 200 times!!)
Crow - DJ Food
A Deep "contra-bass" is used to achieve an almost cinematic feel to the track. It is seriously superb & can even be appreciatedd by the more classically minded people out there. Seriously one of my all time favorite songs!!
Mrs. Chombee Takes the Plunge [DJ Food Re-Bake]
This one is hard to come to grips with , but after listening to it a few times one realizes that this is the best song on the CD :) It sounds out of tune , it rolls & does'nt really get anywhere, but you'll know what im talking about when you get to the last few minutes of the song ... Skip it back & listen again !! WOW !!!
Its really worth every cent you spend on it ... even if you dont like all the tracks, you will love the ones you like !!!

Yeah, it's Peter & the Wolf by Prokofiev. A kids introduction to classical music :-)
Simply brilliant. Introduced me to a great label. - By: , 10 Apr 2001
My brother has run off to university & come back with a greatly different tastein music. He lent me this CD set, & I was hooked. Every track will be your favourite. Some nice mellow tracks, some bumpin' one's (and some wierd one's; Fish - Mr Scruff). If you like this, but would prefer somthing a bit more hip-hop then get the Xen cuts CD, which is a nice introduction to Ninja Tunes. Also, can anyone name the sample at the end of "More beats & Pieces"? Brought back memories.

Coldcut made me buy this album & this album makes me want to go out & be part of it! There is not a minute of this exhilarating experience that i believe could be better - some bits are full & overwhelming, other are more restrained & yet surprising. I am also buying it for my boyfriend for Xmas!!! :)
