POT, BOOZE AND A DASH OF DYLAN, FOLK ROCK NEVER SOUNDED BETTER - By: Mr. Christopher J. Welch, 30 Jul 2008
McCartney has always stated that the years 65-67 represented the true zennith of his & John's songwriting. The triplet of albums Rubber Soul, Revolver & Sgt Pepper marked a distinct shift away from the wholesome boy/girl pop of the early singles & quite simply changed the face of popular music forever. The Beatles were indeed 'on fire'.
Rubber Soul is hugely influenced by Bob Dylan & it is predominately a folk rock record full of accoustic guitars, those trade mark 3 & 4 part harmonies & intelligent thoughtful lyrics.
John Lennon's contributions are outstanding - 'In My Life' & 'Norweigen Wood' (the first sighting of a sitarin a Western pop song)are beautifully constructed songs that show just how good a composer he really was. On the harmony drenched 'Nowhere Man' he even dared to bare his troubled soul for the first time on a Beatles record. McCartney's songs may not have the emotional depth of his partner's but they are just as impressive - 'Drive My Car', I'm Looking Through You' & 'Michele' (the second most covered Beatles song ever). George also stepped out from Lennon & McCartneys's shadow with his best song to date - 'If I Needed Someone'.
Add to this the joyous 'The Word', 'Wait' & Macca's 'You Won't See Me' & you have an album full of memorable songs & absolute 10 carat classics.
Surprisingly, despite it's deep themes, unusual arrangements & intelligent lyrics, Rubber Soul was instantly embraced by critics & the record buying public alike. They even had the time to record one of their greatest singles - the double A-Sided 'We Can work It Out'/'Daytripper'.

TODA UNA ENTIDAD DISCOGRÁFICA - By: C. Bellegarrigue, 22 Feb 2008
A Must Have Classic - By: R G Swale, 28 Nov 2007
This is quite simply one of the greatest albums of all time. In my opinion, it is the Beatles at their songwriting best. It may not be as polished as Abbey Road or as revolutionary as Sgt Pepper, but song for song on pure likability alone, Rubber Soul is my favourite. The highlights from my point of view are Run For Your Life & Girl, but this is a classic album, & anyone would enjoy it.
I'm not going to buck tradition - By: Lucrezia McEvil, 20 Nov 2007
But I sneaked here to Amazon UK to see if the American release (if a CD of the version *was* released, which now looks unlikely) might be here, since Amazon US has only the British release.

Sorry! I was bornin 1954 & grew up on new Beatles recordings as they first came out. And the Rubber Soul I grew to love starts with "I've Just Seen a Face."

Oh, well. I guess I'll find the missing songs & burn a CD that sounds like the one I memorized backin the 60s.

Goodbye all!
If only - By: Nick Mersey, 08 Nov 2007
the rest of this album could have the remix & remaster treatment applied to the version of Nowhere Man on the Yellow Submarine songtrack album, Amazon would need to introduce a 6 star rating! Hurry up EMI
