Close your eyes and forget everything - By: , 04 Mar 2004
This album will take you somewhere else. This is DJ Spooky's medicine for your ears & your brain. Paul D Miller's own style he calls "illbient" is a merger of ambience & music thats ill.
This underground masterpiece cannot get any spookier, with the reconstruction of ambient sounds, elements of dub, striking delays & fresh soundscapes, this is reconstruction at its very best. If you like this album, you'll love the "The Quick & the Dead". Also try & get hold of the mix he did for Nest Magazine.
An experimentalist at heart, DJ Spooky is a parallel to the sounds of DJ Shadow, DJ Krush & other diggers/producers such as Jel, Mr Dibbs & EL-P/Company Flow
Atmospheric, urban beats from the subliminal kid - By: , 08 Mar 2001
Subliminal would certainly appear to be an apt name fotr DJ Spooky, this album builds up fine sonic landscapes time & time again but is just painfully slow-moving at times. Having bought this on the basis of comparisons between him & THE GREAT DJ SHADOW I was a tad dissapointed. This album seems to be somewhere between aphex twin's ambient works & Shadow's down-tempo stuff. Still recommended
